    Another offering for your entertainment.

    Exhibit A: http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/moto...1311957663.htm Yeah right.....

Exhibit B: http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/moto...1312128114.htm I am quite impressed with this one. The 'Customiser' had a clear vision and did it properly, unlike so many others. It features the traditional pipe wrap and brown seat, but somehow (in my eyes) turned out well above the usual standard of Caffination.

    Hhhmmmm 'replacement engine"...........

Still own an injected version of this, never going to really be a classic. A good bike but never really had a following in NZ and failed to perform in WSBK apart from a couple of brief victories.

Yeah they're not a bad old Bus to ride. Just haven't dated very well in my opinion.

That is dreaming at the highest level.

Center seal not done on the crank, bet it leaks.

Airbox not functional, bet it's down on standard power.

    $7k over priced.

I quite like it too but I am not sure its $7k worth - but it does now have two CDI units instead of just the one...

The GT looks cute. But not 10k cute. Or 5k. And I never trust people who have done engine work unless I know them well.

It's only a twin. Have the crank stripped and the middle bloody seal done, is how I see it.

How can you tell the middle seal isn't done? It's not like you can see inside the engine...

Although, re-reading the auction, I guess it's this bit got you spooked Drew:

Bottom end like New, replace l/h and r/h Crank Seals and Output Seals.Clean and re-build.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

    That one is pretty cool.

The CB650 was possibly one of the sweetest engines of the era - don't know if those dollars are valid (not to me) but I'll add it to the watch list and see what happens out of interest.

So the bottom end isn't like new. 2strokes don't like to sit around unused. Any degradation of the big end rod plating or the rollers will shorten the lifespan quite dramatically. My Stinger for example had a good crank for casual observation. But I knew the bike had sat outside for years. Queue full rebuild.

Why is that Dave? Is it something to do with the metals they use - designed to handle a petroil mix - or is it the actual petroil sitting inside the crankcase (albeit not very much) that degrades the metal?

Well no just like it isn't sitting in a bath of oil likeva 4 stroke. The GS were indistructable for any length of time with a built up crank.
