It was an example illustrating the reason some people are optimistic. Perhaps I should have been more clear, but it's my brother selling the bike and I wanted to get some reaction.

Is that Al Denovan having a bid on it? Or another Alan from Wellington that's into bikes?

Your local yamaha parts man has been in the business for longer than 5 minutes - and was trained by the best yam parts man there's been in NZ.

Try this. For a kit project bike, this is more just a collection of manky parts

Some of these model bikes fetch very good money. Hardly surprising that people put silly buy now prices on some auctions.
I love the drum brake front end. And lets be honest the discs on them are a bit average so probably the same stopping power

Um, yamaha have been making that motor since (waht, 1976? and the SR500 was released in 1978, and is still in production today.

They imported them here for only a few years sure, but they are immensely popular in Japan, Germany and Scandinavia (source latest Motorcycle Trader mag which has a feature-ette on them: read while pooping this very morning).

20k can get you... A brand new R6 and left over money for Calendar Girls, just sayin'

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/moto...1035518097.htm

$20k for an 11 year old bike... I don't know man.

That 240 rear wheel...good luck turning that fucker around the corner.

Also, have fun riding in that position with your arms stretched out like a bloody monkey for more than 60 minutes.

Someone tell me why these things are worth that much?
