With regards to your last sentence, you could apply that to every listing posted in the thread.
The seller can (and is allowed to be) just as optimistic as the rest of them.

    His tyre. His (potential) sale.

But a biker on a budget ... might get a few thousands km's from it that they might not otherwise afford. Not all riders are Sunday riders, They might need a tyre to get to work.

Can't argue that, which is why I said 'I' wouldn't put it on my bike. If someone else wants to, by all means. But as this is mostly an opinion based thread, I have simply given mine. As you have yours. Neither is wrong.

Trademe is full of unlikely sales.

    And many sell.

    Go figure.

And never say never ... unlikely situations do occur.

I gave a tyre to a guy that needed one to get back to Christchurch (from Alexandra) one time ... it was a lot worse than that.

It may not have been entirely legal ... but it was better than the one that he had.

    And it got him home.

When your options are few ... some decisions get easier.

I hope your options are always many.

    Actually ... they can.

    And ... it's entirely LEGAL.

The purchase of ANYTHING on Trademe is not compulsory.

I note that the seat appears to have been beautifully recovered in electrical tape.
