parents had a series of Vivas to Chevettes to Gemini when i was a nipper.
they were better handlers the the Escorts but know where near a peppy especially as they never got the bigger engines like the Escorts did.
Same shiit box engine manufacturing that that only allowed 40 thousand miles before a complete rebuild though.
i would have a Chevette hatch with a SR20 or 13BRenesis or escort mk1 with the same.

My brother brought back a V8 Torana from Oz. Went like a haunted shit house. Probably rare now as they were likely all written off.

Doesn't sound very exciting. The 400s were always a poor man's 500. Now the 500s are moonbeams the poor man is trying to cash in. With some success. The intake is complicated with restrictions but not all shrouds should be removed or you lose power again having gained some with removal of first ones.

So with the RG400s being a Japanese Domestic model would they be restricted to 59hp? I remember the NS400Rs being around the 72hp mark.

The only Yoshi thing is probably the paint job being vaguely alike to some of their superbikes.

The Homologation special will be the restricting of it to the Japanese domestic market req of 59hp....same as the RZ350 made, the RZV500...(alloy frame one for the local market)

In the mid 80's Suzuki dumped a bunch of these domestic market models here. Impulses and RG400's being two models. At one point the RG400's were quite regular. Raced against a few on my TZR250 in club racing.

    Hey Dave

I've ridden both the 500s and the NS400R but not the RG400 so never figured out if they were quicker or not.
My old memories of the other 3 was, the RG500 was quickest, the RZ500 made the best noise but was a handful and the NS400R handled the best but that V3 wasn't a nice 2t noise.

Not ridden an NS400, but owned an RZ500 which I mostly rebuit as it was a wreck with a conrod hanging out - yes I found another motor!. The family at one point 4 all at the same time. I found that photo recently of all 4 running on the driveway. Dad's was new out of the box for him. He owned it twice....second time it was sold it had 4900km on it. Anyway, mine was "Possessed". Every time I rode it, something broke. I did 5500km in 7 years and frankly didn't really like it. Moreso THAT bike. Best thing I did was good set of Metzelers and 6 extra teeth on the rear sprocket.

I rode a mates RG500 ex Algie production race bike. Holey crap. Steered worse than the RZ, but lol, it in no way could have been production I suspect. Rumour has it they had to drill out the fuel tap passages ....

The NS400 I recall had some factory mods" required to the ATAC valve once they arrived to try and speed them up. Sae frame as the original NS250.

I ended up on a brand new 1KT TRZ250 in 87/88 for proddie racing. I was shit and the bike wasn't nearly as fast as sat the 400/500's, but the chassis was so good in comparison, yet only a couple of years newer.

clucking bell. I would have thought $2500 would own that. I turned one down for $300 once (in 82 or something).
