Actually I've had near 20 years of windows and computers in general, still have a windows 7 setup in the studio fire it up every 5 days or so, as some of the software I use is old enough that it needs a serial port.
When I fire it up I go away for 10 minutes as it downloads and does all its security updates, then shuts down starts up and all that bullshit.
Have to pay good money to have virus/security protection.

We have one iMac in the house used for all sorts of online stuff no virus protection or anything else never had an issue with it, more than 2 years old now never needed re formatting and the op system re loaded.

Admittedly my own experience but I never have issues with the apple stuff not even the appleTV that removes all the tiresome add in youtube vids.

My only gripe would be I would love a larger screen on the iPhone

Why do you need to pay for malware protection?

If you're doing your security updates as you should be, then you shouldn't end up with the machine frequently rebooting. Just do all the updates it needs, and it should be fine for a while.

I know plenty of Windows machines that haven't had to have their boot drive formatted in over 2 years. My Linux machine is rock solid too.
