Help an old lady out please

I need, nay, WANT to purchase a tablet device

Has to be internet friendly, so I can continue to post shite on here

Must have all the smarts to do what you guys take for granted.

    Must be great deal!

I expect a KB discount if you sell them in Auckland

Why? Got given the latest all singing & dancing Samsung 10.1 or some such for work. Useless. For work anyway. No excel or word etc. Had to buy "asps" for it. Pants. Every time you move it or touch it something unwanted happens. I could not make much use of it until I had a google account & a Samsung account. So they could steal all my personal info & monopolise my interweb use.

As a telly for watching the interwebs & general time killer it was amazing. No doubt awesome for twatting & face pooping, too, but that's not my thing.

I may just be a technophobic old codger.

Mom, after working with windows / android for more years than I care to think about Ive become an apple man, buy an iPad you will only do it once and you will be impressed.

Now many will come on here and poopoo this but none of them will be apple people for 20 plus years and have then moved over to windows because its a better operating system / better hardware.
Don't judge me based upon your ignorance.

Do you like Simple, Restrictive and Over Priced - Get an Ipad
Do you like less restrictive and not over priced - Anything Samsung with Android

My best advice - go to somewhere like PB tech and have a play on their Tablet devices. Tell any Sales people to piss off and that you are just looking. Try and do the following on each:

    Go to youtube
    Go to Facebook
    Go to KB
    Open the Email Application

then make a note of which one felt easier - then let us know which one you are thinking of, we will look at the specs and suggest the best bang for buck

Hmmm, old people eh, make sure you get one with big letters, loud speakers, and a non reflective screen. Oh and since it may be lap use, waterproof too

They are pretty feckin weird to use, but I've found that typing on a screen is a PITA with my slightly chubby digits and you get used to not worrying that you're going to break the damned thing every time you look at it.. It's the apps you can get for it that would suit me... maybe Mom just wants a fancy taptalk message.

Says in my profiley thing to the right of my name.

    Happy to provide Tech advice

    PB Technologies

    http://www.pbtech.co.nz/

The advantage is that they normally have demo units powered up, unless you are used to one tablet philosophy (I prefer Android based devices as I always find Apple layout/methodology weird) then the difference is really going to be down to what you prefer.

if you play on an Ipad and find it easier to use than an Android device - get the Ipad, and vice versa

Now that's out of the way, by the sounds of things an ipad would be the way to go if you can justify the expense.

Here's why you should get a tablet.

If you decide Netbook, I only ever hear good things about ASUS... especially in regards to build quality.

+1 on PB tech. Got me lappie off em a couple of years ago, full warranty ect ect. I noticed after a bit that my lappie "squawked" now & again. No biggie until I became addicted to spotify. You don't want squawking when your listening to White Stripes at full tittie. I contacted them with 6 days of warranty left to go. No dramas, sent it off & got it back. Still squawked.. Bassid. Back on the phone. Out of warranty by now but no dramas, send it back. Took over 2 weeks to get it back, waiting for hardware from wherever... Any hoo, back it came, problem solved. Cost me a courier fee.
PB tech is now my first port of call for tecchie gubbins.

The tablet thingie? Despite my earlier trashing I can see the point. But. Tapping an on screen keyboard is a pain in the date. Having to switch between key boards is rubbish. Using the funky, silver "pen" is weird, retro. It's not intuitive how to delete & secure stuff, they run on them asp thingies, which led me to much frustration.
You can accesorise, a key board dock was available for the tablet I had, basically turned it into a very basic lap top. That appealed to me. Nice wee case with a key board & your tablet stuck in it.
Got to say battery life was outstanding. It sat on the dining room table & beeped at every new email for 10 days! Screen quality, even in bright sun light was surrealy (that's a new word!) good. I think with tablets they, manufacturers, net servers, ect, are more effective at dragging the $$$ out of your pocket.

Apple v Android? Yeah, go have a tutu.

Oh, unless you like staring at your lap it's really hard to get the l'il bassids in a place where you can use it & look at it. Cerealy, strange things.
