Go for it. Looks like a Ducati rear end on that.

There is some bucks in that build still, cast you eye carefully over it.

Problem in NZ is that 'spares' are parts are stupid $ - a late model front end will cost too much. Cheap in the USA! worth looking at importing bits.

Start with a tidy donor and making a shopping list.

so start with a cb donor bike. or did they make steel frame vfrs earlier?

Look for a CB750K......less likely to have been thrashed or abused compared to a F and usually a lot cheaper.

It's not hard to make a single shock top mount in a steel frame.

Many have. To get it legal in NZ it would have to be certified - I'd pop into one of the companies that do certification and have a chat about your desires first - the good ones give out free advise and tell you what they need to see each step of the way. Much easier than rocking up all finished and they want to grind off the paint to have a look at the welds ........

Before you start that project, do me a favour?

Go out to the shed, and take the tank and subframe off your CBR250. Then tell me it doesn't straight away look like the coolest 'bobber' you have ever seen.

First, find a good running CB750 or CB900F. you would at least budget for a vapour blast and paint or something, plus anything the motor needs. Not sure if the carbs are stock or aftermarket. It can be difficult setting the CV carbs up to run well with pods and a 4 - 1 but stick a pin in that for now.

Now you need a Ducati Multistrada rear end. Have fun with that. Once you have it then you have to make sure that the swingarm goes in, that you have altered the frame to work with one single shock and instead of two up at the subframe. Then make a new subframe. Now make sure that the chain will be in a straignt line and that it will clear the rear wheel and that the rear wheel is in the middle of the bike.... (this is the key to that project by the way. Now go find a front end for it... That one is an R6. Now, make that fit.

You're on the home stretch now.... all you have to do is everything else. Electrics, clocks, make sure the thing has the wheels in line. Add some clipons or bars of your choice and away you go. bit of paint, some lights... easy. Oh, and an exhaust.

If you are paying to have it done I would say you would get no change from thirty grand maybe more. If you are DIY-ing and depending on your skills I reckon minimum ten to fifteen.

Bear in mind if you want to actually ride it you will need a LVV certificate. not sure how you go about that.

Unless you have a really good set of skills, a place to work, time on your hands and way more money than you think you will need, youre gonna have a bad time. Rule of thumb for DIY: It takes twice as long, and costs three times as much. Doesnt matter what it is.
