No - I was not making that assumption - that is why I started with "on what basis do you make that judgement?"
And that' the answer I needed to hear ... (Ken's a relation of mine) .. and tells me what I need to know ...I'm as Pakeha - or as Maori - as Ken Mair.
On that basis - Yes, there is a Manaakitanga issue ... I happen to agree with you. It's not the only issue.
No - that's not how I see it - I watch people like Don Brash tell Māori what their culture is and how it should operate - and we all get pissed at that ..Second, your stated reluctance 'as a Maori' to accept a 'Pakeha judgment' very neatly defines the apartheid that exists in New Zealand.
As to the apartheid issue - no, I do not see it that way. We are forced to accept approaches all based in our European-derived cultures. The majority expect us to - Education runs on dominant culture lines, health runs on dominant culture lines social welfare runs on dominant culture lines ... etc
We are setting up such services run on Maori lines - and we get accussed of apartheid ??? As far as I know no service has refused to accept non-Māori people into their services ... how can that be apartheid?
The dominant culture delivery mechanism alienate our people ... with major social costs .. Maori services work better for our people and alleviate the social costs ... How can that be apartheid ?
If we take all Maori out of the dominant culture's health system, education system etc . then those services will be cheaper to run .. the money can then be spent on Maori-based services .. this is not a gravy train - we are spending the money in a different place, that's all .. it's not going to cost taxpayers any more ...
See - I work in a wananga - and the Government pays this institute the same amount per student as other tertiary organisations - if the students were not here the would be in other organisations - which would be receiving the money ... there's no extra costs to having a wananga as well as unis and itps ... and guess what - we have Pākehā students and staff members ... this is not apartheid or a gravy train.
Anyway ... I'm gone ... on the road tomorrow - By the time I get back Waitangi will have all blown over for another 12 months .. so don't bother to reply - I'm not here to read whatever you write.
"So if you meet me, have some sympathy, have some courtesy, have some taste ..."
Shit - you bastards keep posting ...
You make that sound like a bad thing - that saddens me - it is not a bad thing at all ... know who you are and be proud of it .. don't apologise ...
Bullshit !!!
If only .. we would love that .. stop judging us on what you all believe we are .. or want us to be ... or used to be .. judge us on what we do .. (like contribute $36billion each year to the NZ economy)Most New Zealanders however prefer to be defined by what we do in this life, rather than whine for taxpayer handouts on the basis of what one bunch of ancestors did or did not give or receive or harangue or sign or fight or lose to another bunch of ancestors.
I think you are wrong. I have found Maori culture to be more inclusive than Pakeha culture ... STUFF IT - THAT WOULD TAKE TOO LONG TO EXPLAIN .. AND I WANT OUT ON THE ROAD ..
GONE !!!
"So if you meet me, have some sympathy, have some courtesy, have some taste ..."

So I don't have rage so hard, upon seeing the bullshit, that goes on during Waitangi day.

Sorry have to dissagree with you BB ... Waitangi is every day ... now and for ever! (ake ake ake) It must not be allowed to blow over like some cheap carnival!
Waitangi "day" is a specific day of celebration of our national progress in making the treaty our living document.
The rest of the year is for the shit to fly and get sorted so the protesters should just shut the fuck up for 24 hours and show some respect!
Waitangi day is a day to recharge our batteries ... nobody expects it to be easy but just one day in 365 to say "YES" FFS!![]()
