Waitangi "day" is a specific day of celebration of our national progress in making the treaty our living document.

The rest of the year is for the shit to fly and get sorted so the protesters should just shut the fuck up for 24 hours and show some respect!

Waitangi day is a day to recharge our batteries ... nobody expects it to be easy but just one day in 365 to say "YES" FFS!
Nice thought John but wont happen.I say long may there shit continue as every year it seems more New Zealanders no matter what colour there skin or ethnic background have a chuckle over there bullshit and simply get on with the day as it was intended.Fuck em its just a circus for the media.

    True!

Was just watching Paul Henry (what a plonker) on TV3 and the media presentation from Waitangi was bloody pathetic FFS!

It could be said that Waitangi Day is a Eurocentric construct to commemorate the english outsmarting the french to get colonial control over a country, despite the local inhabitants, which they would much rather have not had to deal with and were probably pissed they couldn't treat them as vermin and wipe them all out - as the yanks tried with the native americans, the indonesians are trying with the Papuans, and the aussies are still trying with the abos.........but if it's all wiped under the carpet and if we all hold hands it'll go away and we can continue with our eurocentric lives as usual without a thought in the world...........other than stop rocking our shitty comfy little boat!

You must spread some reputation around before giving it to Bandit Bandit again

(Yes, I get what happened - and my Grandfather was wounded on the beaches at Gallipoli on April 25 ... I remember with respect ... I get all that ... It was still the slaughter of colonial troops in a great British fuck up)
Show some respect. Stand behind us, or stand in front of us.
So you remember with respect but your still gutless enough to write the first paragraph?

For most who live in NZ, Waitangi Day has always (and lets face the truth here) a day off school/work when it falls on a weekday.
Yes, some shit or other happened in 1840 and that's fine, all the reside in NZ should know the brief history of Feb 6 1840. It has only been in the last 30 years or so, that Waitangi day has taken a on a more sinister tone primarily due to the media reporting only of the crap that happens at Waitangi on the 6th. It is only a handful of unemployed low lifers that attempt to upset what should be a calm and dignified few days in the Bay of Islands.

On the grand scale of things, those 'people' mean nothing to the thousands that attend, but the media love that shit and can't get enough of it. They report on it, and Waitangi Day is viewed (unfortunately) as a few days of upheaval and protests, when the fact is, it is quite the opposite.

I'm not sure how my comment was taken as that I am not proud of being english, I am extremely proud.

My comment was more towards any discussion where the key points revolve around the subtleties of Maori language and Culture are discussions which I am alienated from due to my lack of knowledge in these fields.

A lack of knowledge that has no bearing or impact on the pride I take in my heritage.

Well ... here we are ... it's Waitangi day and the only shit going down is that the holiday makers have bought out all of the news papers!

I wonder how that will look on HomoTV 1 and 3 tonight? ... Drama to be sure!

Well not all of us, I came off first call 50 minutes ago and now I am on as backup. I have no worries about working on this day, although it does bite to see how the Perpetual Grievance Industry makes other people pay for their cultural expenses.

Ultimately however there's no way that robbing the 30-40% that are actually working, can eternally fund multi-culti wishlists as well as infrastructure, health care, education and the other things society needs (as opposed to parts of society whine about wanting).

Sooner rather than later Maggie Thatcher's famous "the problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money' will come true here. Good luck then eating your marae protocols and keeping warm with your powhiris and separate developments.
