    Unhappy Metzeler Z8 wore out

Wore out at 8300 but am now amending this post as it seems I was given a single compound version (represented by the big C on them) instead of an O or M which are the dual compound versions. So to be fair I have had even less miles out of a single compound tyre before.

Whether City MC (Nelson) meant to do this to save themselves money or not I don't know but can hardly blame the tyre it seems.

Forbes and Davies who import them have offered me 25% off the correct Z8 which is more than fair so will try again and use Nelson Cycletreads in future.

And I should say I was very happy with their performance right up to the end.

Bit sad to think I should have learnt the codes to check I was given the right tyre, but there you go. The guy at Cycletreads knows his tyres to will buy off him in future.

Can't remember if I have the Metzler Z8 or Z6 on mine, but I'm loving them.

Grippy and I'm about 5000km in and still looks like I'll get another 5000km out of em.

Hmmm - I am on the verge of replacing my Z6 with Z8 so keen to hear about other's experiences with this. The Z6 has done me very well, so surprised to hear that the quality might have dropped. I'll see what google has to say too.

    Metzler came good

Got to give it to them, Forbes and Davies sorted this out, identified I had wrong tyre, and with Bullion MC (Nelson Cycletread) have done me a great deal on correct Z8 Dual compound.
Great back up service from both.

Something to keep in mind when shopping for my next tyre
The Pilot Road 4 (just released) for example has 3 different subtypes (4, 4 Trail, 4 GT), with different construction, different spread of compounds through the tyre and different sizes to suit different applications.

While a review gives you a general idea, for specifics you have to search on the exact tyre. For example, reading up on the 4 Trail, for big dual purpose bikes will not give the expected result of then using the 4 GT, which is for big heavy road tourers.

Agree with you all that having to check lettering to make sure you have right tyre is absurd. Be better if makers gave different model names surely. Why have a single compound soft tyre called a z8 if it's supposed to be the sports touring dual compound? Seems they all do it so in future will get my tyres from the specialist who knows this stuff, as cycletreads do.
Again though, was cut a great deal by forbes and Davies and am more than happy with my new z8.
