Theres a place in otane [central hawkes bay] that make some of the best polo sticks in the world...they also make custom made cricket bats for very reasonable prices...a number of black caps use them...aswell as a aussie that I know of....if you do a web search you should be able to find a contact!
None of the current Black Caps uses a New Zealand made bat. Grey Nicholls (Vincent, Vettori, Cairns, Styris), Gunn & Moore (Fleming, McCullum) and Kookaburra (Astle, J Marshall, H Marshall) account for most of the bats used. SS and Spalding bats also feature in the current squad.

Matt sinclair used to use a laver and wood (which is the brand I think he is referring to). Remember just because there are stickers on their bats doesn't mean that is the actual manufacturer of the bat.

    P.S. McCullum uses puma.

These are professional cricketers on gear-sponsorship packages. The sticker on their bat will have been put there by the actual manufacturer who would have also knocked the bat in for them.

I'll take your word for this and will look more closely next time.

Nope the manufacturer doesn't care what bats they use, they will give them the bats if they request them otherwise they will just send out the stickers to the players. This is from the horses mouth too, the manufacturer just wants the exposure for their brand, no one from tv pictures can tell what brand the bat is but they can definately see the sponsors stickers.

Also most players knock their own bats in, you'd be surprised how seriously some players take their bats. They will play with one in the nets for a long time, sometimes months before they actually use it in a game.

So who uses the laver and wood bats then? From what I have seen of them in shops they look like their finishing isn't as good as the likes of kookaburra etc and the "feel" of them isn't that nice either.

I think they make them smaller so that they fit on a web site.
