Banned? Oh dear, what a shame

So ... rap group Odd Future will not be allowed to perform in GodZone - deemed "a threat to public order ..."

    http://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment...a-threat-to-NZ

And as a result maybe M&M will pull out ...

As a staunch defender of free speech I suppose I should protest ...

But I would hope that a free and enlightened society would not produce such shit as this group does ... as it is produced then we cannot claim to be an enlightened society - and therefore freedom is gone too ...

I can muster up enough energy to protest and say "oh dear .. what a shame ..."

I must be getting old ... and I can hear the younger generation screaming about free speech ... I would say to them "Oh dear ... what a shame ..."
"So if you meet me, have some sympathy, have some courtesy, have some taste ..."

If you do decide to get off your arse and go protest free speech... make sure you get your permit allowing you to legally do so first, ok.

You have free speech, but to say you are going to kill someone will warrant the police looking into you.

Personally I say good thing they are banned. They don't even make music. Abusing police, audience members etc verbally and encouraging/telling people to perform physical abuse publicly is a bit daft.

They'd be fuckin busy if that were the case...and given that the "music" is public domain wouldn't you think it odd that they'd announce their intentions before killing said person? Bit like signing a confession.

(C)rap and abusive, disparaging, racial blah blah blah music has been around for decades. Wonder why they're getting so pissy about it now? Oh yeah, coz it corrupts people's minds as they can't think for themselves . I bet "they" hate it when their own weapons are used against them. Alas, "they" are permitted to say and do what they like.

I'd be happier if One Election, Justine Bimbo, etc, etc were banned.
If it is simply coming down to musical standards...

I don't support the decision to ban them - not for any love of them (they can go die in a fire)

but because it sets a precedent, and if Cannibal Corpse come back to NZ, I will be going!

Agreed. It's pretty petty banning them and also really disappointing for all the wigga kids that bought tickets to the gig.

Not my kind of 'music' either but I can totally appreciate that a lot of people don't think metal is music (even though it fucking rocks). If it was a band I liked and I'd bought tickets to see them I'd be gutted that people's narrow-mindedness is getting in the way.

Cannibal corpse has derogatory and abusive lyrics, but they don't tell the crowd to riot or tell people to abuse people. There's a not so fine line between singing about a rancid amputation and telling people to smack a cop over.

Sublime have a song called date rape. The lyrics say "if it wasn't for date rape I'd never get laid". That's all fine to say and sing. But to say "you should go and date rape people if you want to get laid" is wrong (not to mention, it doesn't work in the song).

I agree with your sentiments - but to the Mothers Brigades who typically spearhead this kind of ban, the difference in semantics is lost.

Also, Cannibal Corpse lyrics are amazing

Then maybe somebody should dress up like OF and sing "all you motherfuckin wannabe gangsta Bantu's should jump in front of a train"

I'd pay to see that concert.

I can't find any fuck to give about these guys getting left in.

As for the "free speech / civil liberties" nonsense - no one is censoring these guys. If you're an angsty teenager trying to piss off mum you can still buy their shit music. But being allowed into this country as a guest is a privilege, and not one to be taken lightly. We shouldn't let fuckwits like this through the door, ever.

These assholes are NOT New Zealand citizens, and are not even in the country. They have no guarantee of free movement or association in this country.

Trying to compare the NZ government to the Reich on the basis of this decision is beyond idiotic.
