Anyone know where I can get this type of bar-end from?

Been told my bike won't pass its WOF without barends, unfortunately it needs a certain type that I can't seem to find anywhere on the internet.

The ones that were on previously were a rounded aluminium cap/plug, but I removed them a while ago to try and put new ones on like these: http://i.imgur.com/Be7rNv7.jpg
I had to destroy the aluminium caps to get them out., and the new ones didn't fit/fell out. Inside the bar, there is about 1.5cm of clearance and then solid metal. No screw hole or anything. I believe the handlebars and their plugs originally came from a honda, but I'm not sure what model.

Does anybody know where I can find this type of bar end? Preferably in Hamilton.

try wrapping rubber from an innertube round them, use a bit of tape to hold it in place till you fit it in the bar then when you tighten it up the expansion will hold it all in place.

The hole in the handlebar isn't deep enough. The new handlebar ends sit out of the tube by about 50mm, so when full expanded they get knocked around quite easily.

If it is just to get a WOF go to a pushbike shop and get some bar end plugs and put them in there. they are about 20mm deep.

Did they show you were in the VIRM where it says that the handlebars have to have the barends?

I can't find any reference to it.

Probably just a common sense safety failure - without end caps - the bars represent a "penetrating" capability on a human in the event of a fall to earth. Same way bicycle handlebars are expected to have the ends closed off. if the end crashes down onto your anatomy it will penetrate very badly and more easily without the ends capped.

and its not pretty.

Its bad enough with a plugged barend lemmetellya.

My motocross bars with no bar ends and open grips have never failed a wof in 8 years of warrants... and I live in Wellington where shit gets anal.

The other thing you could do is buy some grips on trademe that have the ends covered. 20 bucks job done.

search 'bar end weights' on Trademe - $20 will hook you up with some bling.

I had the same issue (I wanted bar ends for the look not a wof failure). My bars inner diameter was smaller than bar ends diameter. Used a di grinder, slimmed the rubber down a bit and the metal that can slide inside. Got it in and when tightened up, it doesn't come out. Just get the right size for your bars and it wont be an issue. Use a calliper to measure your bars, buy bar ends to suit.

It was one of the mechanics at Boyd Suzuki in Hamilton. I took the bike for its WOF there last time and the guy told me he was going to pass it but only on the condition that I get bar ends. I didn't, but the time has come around to get the WOF again, so I thought it was probably necessary.
