Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum. I'm thinking to get a 79-82 cb750k, but dont know much about engine repairs. Does anyone know a rough cost of rebuilding the engine and any good place in chch? Thanks very much.

Bring money.
a lot of money.
a few years ago I had a CB750 K2 (so an earlier SOHC Honda 750) which I bought after someone had spent a ton of money on it. With the bike I got the receipts for the engine rebuild which was around $4k for parts and labour. That was around 10 years ago.
You can get bits for them, if not in NZ then one of the internet based suppliers and the strength of the dollar may mean that parts are cheaper now than they were. In fact if you wanted to price some stuff for comparison purposes, check out www.davidsilverspares.co.uk, www.smsnl.com and www.econohonda.co.nz.
You are ALWAYS better to spend a couple grand extra and buy a nice tidy running one than to tip money into something because:
You will never get your money back.
It will take at least twice as long as you think
It will cost at least three times more than you budget.
Unless you particularly want something, or are doing it because your hobby is wrenching not riding, or whatever. Honestly you could easily chuck ten k at some $1500 shitter and end up with something maybe worth $6k. DAMHIK.
And those particular bikes are sort of at their nadir of the value curve. People want STUPID money for SOHC Hondas but the DOHC ones seem to be cheap. And they are (functionally) a better motorcycle in every way.

Thanks HenryDorsetCase, that's useful information to know.:-)
Also watch for damage to the comstar wheels on those (if fitted)
HDC is correct in his description. Is there a particular reason why you want one? The 900 BolDor was probably a better bike...
there was a REAL tidy 900 Rolladoor in chur chur that went round and round on tardme last year. Asking $6k for it. It looked like a bike that was worth $6k in 1987 money when I paid $6500 for my GPz750 (second hand). If that makes sense...

Thanks for that Paul, :-). I'm just looking at 750s and found the cb, think it is very nice. By the way, I know rebuilding the eninge would probably best done by professionals but there are many people do it themselves. Would it be too much a learning curve for me? I don't know much about mechanics and don't have much money but I have time and patience. Anyway, thanks for the good information guys.
Get a workshop manual for that bike. You follow their instructions on the tear down ... and on the assembly. Actual engine repairs by the qualified people for the respective work ... and it will work out cheaper ... (Less labour costs)
Are you looking at total rebuild ... or just top end (Bottom of the barrels and up) ????
