High beam headlights may have saved man

    http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crim...have-saved-man

Coroner has a whole series of recommendations on how to avoid repeats of this accident but incredibly misses the obvious one... so in my guise of "not a coroner". I thought I'd pitch in to help.

    Finding 1.

Do not get pissed, smoke a joint and lie in the middle of an unlit country road at 4am because..... drumroll please... some bastard may run you over you fucking muppet.

Plus fucking 1. That "news item" made me angry.

Guy lies on dark road full of alcohol and weed, and the driver who hits him seems to get most of the blame.

(I get put in more danger more often by people who forget to dip, or have stupidly bright lights than I do by sometimes being dipped when I could hypothetically be on full.)

Maybe drunks sleeping on the road should be issued hi-viz?

How pitiful that we need to tell people to use high beam. Next people will need training and awareness to know they need to turn a light on in a dark room. Sheesh!!

At 100 km/hr (on high beam) ... most vehicles are at (or past) the limit of seeing something on the road and avoiding hitting it... or stopping in time. By the time you SEE something ... and the brain can tell you WHAT it is ...

But until the brain decides what it is ... you don't lift your foot off the gas pedal ...

And you run it over ...

But it's a local road ... and you know it well ... eh .. !!! Dipped beam is just fine ... what could go wrong ...
When life throws you a curve ... Lean into it ...

What a bullshit list of coroners recommendations, it read like a list of reasons the driver was in the wrong, and not one single mention of if you are dumb enough to sleep in the road you deserve to get run over. Sounds like the whole situation was a win for Charles Darwin really.

That coroner should be strapped to an unlit country road.
