One would suspect there may be some at the landing location, civilian or military... certainly wouldn't expect them to be ringing if crashed into ocean lol....

There are not many real journalist left now, there are a lot of stenographers and cut and paste monkeys though. Real news gathering died a long time ago, now its all-black handbag fights or Paris Hilton backing over her dog in the driveway. No news anymore just entertainment with a dusting of what happened today and its all because they know you'll click the vid of Miley Cyrus twerking BEFORE you read about the train crash tragedy etc...

Well it seems the 'trusted media' is now following the conspiracy trail... and remember a conspiracy is where one or more third parties act together to make something happen...

    http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/ar...ectid=11220825

From the horses mouth: A former intelligence officer with the CIA says the disappearance of Malaysian flight MH370 has been more skilfully executed than the 9/11 attack.

There's speculation that the plane might have landed somewhere.

Mike Scheuer told Newstalk ZB's Rachel Smalley it appears to be even more precise than 9/11.

"It's not evident that it was a suicide mission. Perhaps they have other uses for the plane if it's a terrorism attack.

"Perhaps they're going to try bargain with the West for the release of some al-Qaeda people in return for releasing the passengers who were on the plane.''

He says if it was an act of terrorism, there could be a rogue plane out there.

"Once their plane is down somewhere you can repaint it, you can put a different number on the fuselage, and if you replace some of the equipment it won't give off the identifying signal that it would give off normally.

"And then you have kind of a wild card aircraft out there.''

and... "For a commercial plane to pass undetected through these regions, which are highly militarised with robust air defence networks, many run by the US military, would require a combination of extremely sophisticated navigation, brazen audacity and security failure by those monitoring international airspace"

Now this bulldust about flying under the radar, a 777 at 5000ft would not go unnoticed visually or audio wise either. Every goat herder, fisherman and sailor would see that. Pretty sure it got flown direct to Diego or maybe Perth area military base closely shadowed by AWACS jammer flight...

I've heard that a Ground crew member from MA is under scrutiny, evidently he was on board.

Yet another long shot, no doubt.

Finally a political win from tragedy. I was getting concerned that they'd taken their foot off the pedal for a moment.

They do have a flight plan, but not at a constant altitude, because as the aircraft gets lighter during the flight from fuel being burned, they will increase their altitude periodically in order to minimize fuel burn.

If they did turn around, then they could just use the VFR "see and avoid" to prevent binning, otherwise follow the IFR procedures.

Just gets stranger by the minute. You would think if the plane was stolen to be used to carry some sort of payload or kamikaze style attack they would have done it by now. Everyone is now alerted and searching for a rogue airliner. To have planned the "theft" and not used it straight away seems odd. Could still be a one man effort.
I love the smell of twin V16's in the morning..

True! The news (any news) is just an extended opportunity to wrap saturated advertising around a smidgen of outdated comment!

This is the way it goes...

1 - Prisoners (public says "fair enough - they've done the crime, they take the punishment")
2 - Alzheimers and dementia sufferers (public says "that's understandable, they are at risk and it makes things safer")
3 - Children (public says "there are scary people out there")
4 - High security employees and military/police staff (public says "good call they need a higher level of safety in risky situations")

    then

5 - everyone else, because it's normalised and "what's the problem if you have nothing to hide"

(only half serious, other half scared silly)
