I had a look at this.
    http://www.fixya.com/tags/harmonic_b...subishi/lancer.
    Some good info in that.
Also found out, confirmed counter clockwise to remove.
    !30 lbs of torque.
and I wish I had a rattle gun.

And yes its the "Harmonic Balancer", not apparently a lower double pulley.

I will spin the starter and check its going the right direction and maybe follow Drew's suggestion.

Its off. Took a couple of taps onto the subframe. Then wooosh. It spun right off as Drew said. Shot out of the shed over the concrete and under up under the Ute.

They have always come off by hand for me. They're not a tapered shaft, so don't pull too hard and wiggle ever so slightly to get it started.

Good news. Though as soon as the motor starts turning, let the key go next time.

Depends what end of the crank you look at.

But no, nearly every bike manufacturer has toyed with spinning the crank the other way.

Also be real careful when doing that on some later motors, Ford Focus etc. The bottom timing pulley is on a taper, e.g. no locating key. Will cause bent valves when said timing pulley bolt is loosened.

Nout wrong with Fords, and anyway it was a company car. Was getting its cambelt replaced as per service at a Ford dealership when the mechanic bent all the valves.
