F3/Superlite catch-all derivation ...........
Said it before, I'll repeat it for the hard of hearing : I personally think the CBR idea has significant merit, and I'm equally sure that the setup skills learned would be invaluable
BUT, I don't see how doing away with any of our current Champs Classes to make room for it is a necessarily positive step forward for our Sport nationally either......... Time constraints put upon the Track Owners trickle down to us - which means that there is only time available for so-many races in a day, which limits the Classes we can cater to in that day
Under our current structure we are, like it or not, constrained by the life-stylers who choose to build within earshot of pre-existing racetracks, and their lap-dog lackeys in Local Government. If we race after the close-down deadline and piss the wrong people off near some tracks, we will NOT be going back - for Champs OR Club /Trackdays .........
This IS a sad, unpalatable but inevitable truth
This is one of the reasons you are all queuing up to be the next Commissioner, difficult decisions have to be made that impact on an awful lot of Competitors, and with the potential to adversely affect every circuit in the country, as draconian noise laws can be rubber-stamped into existence by ALL once the floodgates are opened by ONE - speak to Paul Searancke if you've got a day or so spare ........
Why bother with becoming the commisioner, as far as i can tell its a pointless " appointed mouthpiece" position that has little effect on planning, or direction or outcome. (sorry Billy) I can rattle of a number of names that would put their hand up including mine "IF" the position had the grunt to act.
North Island Road board member is up for change this month, nominations close at the end of March. (You'd think it was a secret, given that there have been virtually zero information / reminders out of MNZ on this position that is up for imminent change)
Anyone that wants to see change in the running of road-racing had best start there. North Island members/residents need only apply.

Lets be clear, I didnt think of this concept, it was from within Blue Wing Honda. All I have done is to champion it as it has serious merit. Such merit that if a class has to be removed to make way for it then it should honestly be considered. Aside from the politics of its ''one brand'' as a training class it will also provide great racing and it ticks a lot of boxes
Honestly, part of the problem in selling the idea is the insistence on labelling it a "training" class Doc - Similar to the way 250 Production is denigrated with the same blinkered pigeonholing
Lets be very clear, the payoff for those involved is more likely to be in the Unit sales , the on-going parts sales, and any publicity attached.
The payoff for those told their chosen Class overnight has no validity because their bike isn't new enough is non-existent - they would be thoroughly correct to feel shat-upon
The Clubs are unlikely to gain new members, unless they are specialist one-interest Clubs - even then, a Jumping Bike Johnny can still remain a member of his high-mudguard Club and race on his current licence, so there is very little to gain
If this issue was just a simple matter of choosing half-a-dozen Classes that will provide the biggest spectacle for a Champs promoter, it would be relatively easy, go where there is the best bang for the Promoters buck - but the Clubs are the promoter
But we need to remember where Champs Competitors COME FROM ....... very few have the luxury of doing this for the great payola, the vast majority are working their arse off to finance doing something they just plain love to do. The only way to guarantee a nice big field that will generate good close racing to provide the spectacle etc etc is to give the bikes away, and then you run into the enormous sense of entitlement prevalent today
Lets get the bikes on the track at Club days, they fit into our current Champs structure already ( and clearly we MUST be right, 'cos the yanks are doing it !), and when there are full fields revisit the Champs status of what would be a great Class to watch and/or be a part of .......
i see Bailee Perriton having a ride on a CBR500 spec'd to EJC specs at taupo today. Good to see it's out there in front of all so we can now see what we think.
