Do you guys spend much time handing out tickets re cellphone usage whilst driving?Amazed at how many i see using them and after once again almost being hit by a stupid bitch using one and failing to give way when turning into my street thought i would ask if you guys spend much time pulling em over.Probably not if your out in a marked car but i would imagine you get a few in an umarked.

Typical eh,only gets serious when they run some poor bugger over.Never really understood peoples addiction to being on the phone the fucking things do nothing but irritate me,the one in the house is bad enough but the other is mostly ignored and only used when things are dire ie to order a feed instead of waiting.

I think the worst thing is people have got worse at "driving" with a phone since the law has come about than before.
The people on handsfree are usually worse too, in-fact from what I've seen/experienced it'd be safer to ban handsfree & txt, just let people use their handsets directly for voice calls only... Or just ban it all, but fags & coffee should be banned too

People get majorly distracted trying to put their coffee back in the holder, trying to take the lid off, adding sugar, burning themselves, & fuck if something goes wrong & it spills on their lap those fuckers are all over the place like a fucking tweeker searching the glovebox for a hit

Everyday I pick up my daughter from school, and witness the amount of idiots using their phones around schools.
I was on the BOT for 8 years, and did my own research on it. 1 in 12 vehicles (80% of them woman drivers) were using their phones when driving around the school area!! (Mostly texting). Kids wandering and crossing the road all over the place....
There is absolutely no excuse for using your phone in the car - esp. in a hazardous area like that!

A cyclist is in a serious condition after riding into the back of a vehicle parked on the Hawke's Bay Expressway.

The 42-year-old Hastings man was cycling along the expressway around midday when he hit a trailer attached to a ute that was parked off the road.

The driver had pulled off the road to use his cellphone.

The cyclist was taken to Hawke's Bay Hospital with serious head and internal injuries.

Police say it appeared he was travelling "at some speed" and did not see the trailer. After hitting the trailer he landed on a small mower that was on the trailer.

The Police Serious Crash Unit is investigating the incident.

That's our most modernist and also deadliest bit of road in HB. Crap like that happens a lot, people slam on the brakes to 'legally' answer their phone and cause a pile up behind them.
The cycle lobby will probably have the shoulder painted green next and ban people from stopping there.
Just about all the commuters on that road are on the boy-racer bicycles too, the ones without legally required reflectors and have silly high pressure race tyres prone to blowouts with 'not for highway use' stamped on them.
I wonder if the cops ever prosecute the cyclists or bike shops for that or is it too much paper work...
The real problem is smart phones as you need to look at them to type.
