I take it the car was rented under your name, If it was the company would have declared the fine to you, you can declare you were not driving (form a JP has to sign) If he also disputes it you get to go to court to challenge it and loose a days pay + court costs, pay up then beat it out of him

Next time put it in his name :P

however the car hire was in their name so the ticket has gone to them. They want to/are going/have? transferred the ticket to my name/filled out the form to do so.
