Which conflicts with observations from my local. They reckon they see slightly fewer Toyotas in spite of their numerical predominance in the national fleet. A reliability more or less directly in line with the premium prices they command, they said.

They did point out that there's a fairly wide spread in reliability even across Toyota models, though.

My Triton has had to have a clockspring and entire steering column replaced, neither under warranty or recall.

My Missus Swears by Toymotas - and I have to say, they are pretty reliable - The engines are quite bulletproof, I have had less problems with the Toymotas that we have owned than with other cars. The problems we have had, have all been reasonably minor as well (like replacing worn brake pads)

Without even putting much thought into it (bit dangerous) have a look at what they are fixing and then Google the Nissan ZD30 (aka hand grenade), which has never been recalled and I bet is a massive problem compared to whatever is being sorted at the minute.
Best Regards,
A non Toyota driver.
Didn't the new head of GM just do a recall on something they have been sweeping under the carpet for a number of years (that possibly killed a few people?).
