I used to NEED to watch the news but lost interest few years ago when minor stories like an All Black with sprained ankle screened ahead of major tragedy or real news etc...

But a heads up next time there is a political scandal turn on Maori TV with subtitles. Was great to watch during teagate saga etc...
You'll notice during times like that TV1 and 3 toe the line and don't ask any real hard questions and almost report word for word same story.
But te maori news has some good reporters who ask interesting questions, wortha watch from time to time.

3 news got the shush about the latest acc fuckup. Mike read the company line in about 3 seconds then it cut to some cat up tree shit.

The dude that did the write-up (it musta been like 8yrs since I found it) spent HOURS trying to get through to someone in the IRD that knew anything. They did go on to inform the writer that should he give back his IRD # his employer is obligated to pay the PAYE tax at the highest rate & as they didn't have an IRD # they couldn't claim it back as the IRD "would have no way to trace the money" without a # associated with it.

The "how to" pretty much spend way more time than you want to on the phone to IRD trying to find someone with the slightest bit of knowledge about the system & then have them take back your IRD # (you may have to write them a formal letter)
