    33 new sites announced.

Cheers Swoop, I read that today too and was looking back at a January 2016 article on revenue for the top 20 speed cameras in NZ. They brought in $25 million for 2015, the same year the road toll was 321, the highest since 2010 when it was 375.

The Ellesmere one would appear to be positioned to catch speedway spectators...Again, why ? No majors I know of.
    The answers pretty simple really...

Good news, more fixed cameras = more policing time spent on crime rather than punishing those who break the road rules (two very different things)

As I understand ... non sworn staff handle the speed camera programs ... with little human input in the initial programming stages ... with the disputed results needing human input.

Revenue from speed camera fines go directly into the Government Consolidated fund. For our noble leader to then decide ... where it will be spent. (probably mostly on Social Welfare)

The Temuka one will be on State Highway 1 south of Temuka, between Huirapa St and Hopkinson Rd.

Well, fuck, why ? Is it going to stop trucks going off the bridges ? Locals pulling out of driveways onto the main road ?

It won't. But you knew that.

Speed cameras are all and only about revenue. And you knew that.

When there is a police focus on speed and the road toll rises do they reverse their dips**t strategy?

Of course not. And we know that.

    Agreed. Sierra Foxtrot Alpha.

But, we end up paying the fine for 104 km/hr so the Popo can feel they are doing a Great Job and the Politicos can Signal their Virtue.

In the city I grew up in they also installed a number of speed cameras in and around the city...(venlo in nethetlands)
One Monday morning they found all the post cut down and all the cameras chucked in the river....

    Never found the "culprit(s)"....

I wonder if we ever get fed up enough here in NZ to actually revolt against this extortion...?

In the UK it's a running battle, I think they lost over 400 in one year to fire damage, (that might have been just London now that I think about it).

As in, drop a tyre around the post, fill it with petrol, toss a match and move on to the next one.
Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon
