More hi-tech speed cameras

I heard the first cameras will be installed at 12 sites in Ak and Wgtn only.

The one in the gorge in Wellington is supposed to already be doing that.

I've heard that said plenty, never heard of anyone who has actually been ticketed though.

I'm surprised nobody has. The Ngauranga one looks fairly accessible from the bank above. *someone* with bad intentions could carry a few old tyres up there and then it shouldn't be too hard to hook them over the camera. A few sacks soaked in diesel and who knows what might happen then...

Of course, the key word in this is 'average'. So if you were unfortunate enough to hit the first camera at (say) 111km/h , stop and park up, have a smoke or coffee, and then carry on.

It doesn't matter what speed you pass an individual camera at, it's the time it takes you to cover the distance between two cameras.

Allegedly, the same thing happens between toll-stations on French Peage motorways, if you cover the distance inbetween too quickly, you get a fine added to your toll. Christ knows what the tolerance is though, because the defacto speed limit on those things is 110mph and I never got pinged.

Its roughly an hour and twenty to Taupo from Napier over 129kms I think. Now you can have some fun on the road getting there but you always get held up by somebody.
The numbers given work out to 96kph average speed.
An urban legend amongst the trucking community is that the CVIU says no truck journey can be legally done above 81km/h average speed.
Heard of guys been had up for the cop saying hey you got to here too quickly but don't know of any successful prosecutions...

our house to taupo, 300kms, best i have done it (in ute) was average of 94kph. most of the time it is 89kph.
But i don't think they will have the cameras that far apart and most will be on the motorway or the like.

If the one in Temuka is on the North side it's a bloody joke. That town and Tinwald have the longest bloody unnecessarily slow main drags on SH1 I know of.

The Ellesmere one would appear to be positioned to catch speedway spectators...Again, why ? No majors I know of.
