They made something that was common as mud 'exclusive' and 'rare'. Best god damn marketers ever to do it so well and for so long. And the crap about clarity in stones so small you can't see shit anyway, it's ridiculous. A well cut one is purdy, but there are way cooler stones out there.

Also not sure of their rarity, but have you seen the prices of those pink ones from Aus? Argyle or something from memory? Madness.

Not worthless. It costs $100/ct to make.
So a diamond really is worth a barrell of oil.

Yeah read about this awhile ago. Its why they have such massive penalties for anyone caught trying to leave the country with uncut diamonds.
Apparently in the early days they were able to be collected by moonlight on the surface of ground.
Now the feckers are vacumning the ocean for them and we thought it was fishing trawlers wrecking seabed...

Got my wife to watch, she is not impressed. Anyway, the only diamond she has, she bought herself.

Diamonds like a lot of other things, are worth what someone will pay for them.
I suspect the value will decrease as man made diamonds become more common. I would rather they were mass produced and cheap because they can have so many industrial uses beyond long life abrasion/cutting disks. (and trading for sexual favours from the ladies)

Nah, some jeweller in town. The only ring she wears that I reconize is our wedding ring. No diamonds set in that but like the marriage, has lasted 40 years so far.

    unlikely to surprise most......
De Beers is a cartel of companies that dominate the diamond, diamond mining, diamond shops, diamond trading and industrial diamond manufacturing sectors. De Beers is active in every category of industrial diamond mining: open-pit, underground, large-scale alluvial, coastal and deep sea.[2] Mining takes place in Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and Canada.

The company was founded in 1888 by Cecil Rhodes, who was financed by South African diamond magnate Alfred Beit and the London-based N M Rothschild & Sons bank.[3] In 1927, Ernest Oppenheimer, a German immigrant to Britain who had earlier founded mining giant Anglo American plc with American financier J.P. Morgan,[4] took over De Beers. He built and consolidated the company's global monopoly over the diamond industry until his retirement. During this time, he was involved in a number of controversies, including price fixing, antitrust behaviour and an allegation of not releasing industrial diamonds for the US war effort during World War II.[5][6]

Coolest man made diamond I've seen was a blue one made from the ashes of a ladies husband who passed suddenly. She had it done overseas and we set it into a ring for her. Cost a bit more than $100/ct for that to be made but it meant a lot to her to have it which was cool to see.

There are a lot coming out of Russia now (for a long time) too, but they are also controlling their market to make a decent buck (they are still cheaper though).

That conflict free diamond crap is all bullshit too. Got to lover marketing.

    Exactly that.
I don't get it either. That kind of money is better spent on motorbikes, holidays or even better, holidays on motorbikes.

Wow! This is worth much more than any random engagement ring.
