Road hazards

hi all , im new to your site but am a long term rider , aprox 34 yrs. in the last few months we have lost too many of our fellow brothers and sisters . not good, we all need to take xtra care out there. one hazzard frequentley come across is ' Tar Bleeding' . Tar bleeding happenings when road temperature and traffic density causes the bitumix to leech up. in other words it presents an danger to riders, something our authorities wont / cant or dont want to acknowledge. any time your out riding and you see this problem get photo evidence of it and inform both the nzta and local council. its poor application by the contractors pure and simple. push with your clubs and other bike associations like B.R.O.N.Z. to take affirmative action. take care fellow road warriors . I'd be more worried about trucks/police cars/cars pulling out in front of you than bleeding tar... Ok, not much fun in the wet/farkin hot but meh

yeah yeah , road warrior is an old saying for those who remember the movie , every rider knows the usual hazzards , cars, cops , cars , oh and did i mention cars, dont knock the older riders where still alive and upright . for the posers out there who buy bikes to look good in front of their mates, wearing shorts and tee shirts on bikes reeks of the muppet brigade. tar bleedig is an unseen risk, face it would you rather see a cop say rider error or road condition. stay up right

I've experience this. Along Linwood road near the Karaka rugby grounds are some flats spots of tar on the road. It was wet (pissing down) and my rear tyre had good tread and pressure but was flat in the center from commuting. The rear would just drift over the wet flat tar. it was pretty disconcerting. That stretch of road has had those patches for years.

Movies, gee your a young chap. Back in my day we only had stage shows and mime acts and that Shakespeare chap who insisted on talking funny.
I'll tell you about real danger sonny, shovelling coal into the furnace on a traction engine, climbing a hill so steep that the hot embers are rolling straight back out.
Ye'd be pulling a good 3mph up the slope, wheel spinning on all the corrugations.
Dem were the days sonny, plowing the road as you drove it, none of thes efancy autopilot concrete tabletop highways.

At least you're not blaming the truckers for wrecking the roads...so you can't be a Labour supporter or a Greenie...

But yep tar bleeding is a problem for all vehicles under adverse conditions. Reporting it as you suggested is one course of action, the other which you'll no doubt be familiar with is riding with a margin for error. If you're as mature as you suggest, and have spent as long riding, then this is hardly a mystery to you.

But on my personal top ten of hazards for motorcyclists, the top seven are taken up by motorcyclists themselves, two for cars and one for other road hazards. And that's my own list, devised over the last 30 years and roughly 4 million clicks, on 2, 4 and 18 or more wheels.

Modern tyres have removed much of the terror of poor road surfaces. I suggest you get some. Also the people who died are in no way related to me and BRONZ are about as useful as a fart in a hurricane. Rather than ranting about perceived shortcomings of a massive road network for a tiny population that somehow manages to be better then many more "civilised" country's road network, both in surface quality and sheer extensiveness, how about you shut up and ride yer bike?
