Tried to watch Seven Sharp tonight

But, we couldn't, and we thought the ad's were bad. We lasted 5 minutes, Hosking was tolerable to a point but two bimbos on tonight are unbearable. Bubble-gum, cheap humour and another good reason to change the bloody channel.

TV at it's worst, in a current affairs perspective SS has hit a new low.

    Well done TVNZ

Lol. Funny how perceptions differ. Only watched tonight because the execrable Jesse is gone and wanted to see how the show went. Hosking I can take or leave - he's intelligent but too convinced of his own importance.

Don't mind Toni Street, she's not a serious journalist but harmless. Heather Du Plessis-Allan is a good journalist and probably wasted on SS but at least she is there.

I only watched for the Christchurch floods update which is such a sad situation, then changed channel.

Current affairs show . I've not seen a decent one since Paxman on Newsnight... and at that point in time I wasn't even paying attention. Current affairs indeed.

Which is why radio is my first choice for all news and CA stuff.

You can do other stuff while you get (mis) informed as well...

They're both unusual choices... generally you don't see 'average' looking (ugly seem to harsh) woman in supporting roles of trash TV.

I was reflecting on this over the weekend because I was surfing channels and struck an interview with Edward Snowden by a German reporter which was completely fascinating. Long form Q & A that allowed Snowden to speak, talked about his background, why he did what he did, what he actually did and why he cannot and will not receive a fair trial if he returns to the US. Seriously good and informative.

What passes for current affairs and news on peasant TV is not the same. Not the same at all.

Yep I gave up on TV for "news" a long time ago, even shows that used to be serious journalism like 60 minutes etc are now just like a tabloid newspaper, stories about royals or someones botoxed arse.
Seven Sharp is unwatchable crap and Hoskings is a smug prick.
Radio works for me BBC world service in the evenings and national programme in the morning (a shame Geoffs gone but he probably deserves a lay in)
It's like going to the future as the News that "breaks" in the newspaper or the 6.00 news you've usually heard two days earlier on the beeb and it's quite likely you've heard some really good in depth reporting from both sides of the story, so when it's finally aired on TVNZ you realize just how watered down and americanized our news content is.

Another thing about radio is you can tinker in the garage and get stuff done whilst learning a thing or two in the process, having said that I'd rather eat my own cock than listen to talkback or any commercial ZB type stations with 'personality' presenters rabbitting on.
