Arrived all okay - however my Bike has spat its dummy a little - it feels like it is running on 3 out of 4 cylinders (seriously, sounds like a 2 stroke atm) so if any of you are very mechanically minded I wouldn't mind a hand - have already drained the carbs as I thought that was the issue (went onto the reserve a twice on the ride down)

either way - bike was struggling to stay at 100 kph on a straight and level road in top gear, whereas normally it can go all the way up to 150

Check the spark plugs and leads??? Remove one spark plug at a time, put the spark plug lead back on then holding the rubber/plastic cap so not to electrocute yourself, press the bottom of the spark plug onto clean metal on the cam cover, thumb the started and make sure each plug is sparking ok? I'm 24 km's out of Dannevirke btw

I might have got to the partial bottom of it - Decided to take out the spanners and attack - pulled out the Air Filter and it is swimming in a pool of Engine Oil.

I also took it for a service just before my trip. Me thinks they have over filled the oil and with the stress and extra heat from long distance riding, it has over flowed and gone up through the carbs.

Am debating whether I will need to take the carbs off and clean them - which is just about outside my skill and experiance to do - if someone is more experiance knowledgable - there will be a beverage of your choice bought by me for you at Valhalla

Is the filter itself swimming in oil or/and is the airbox itself swimming in oil? Is there a tube running from the top-ish of your motor to your airbox, as if your engine is pressurizing due to being over filled, that overflow tube is the only way oil will be getting to the airbox. Your friendly service mechanic may have just got over enthusiastic when oiling your air filter after cleaning it? =Oil will not be coming up through your carbs, maybe from your airbox through them!
Still check your plugs as I mentioned above, check them for color too, see if any are oily black....

Both the Airbox and the Filter were swimming - when I pulled it out, a great flood came forth.

I'm gonna drain the oil a little, I don't think there is a tube running like you described.

will have to pull the tank in order to check the plugs.

Again, offer of free alcohol on me stands

The only way for the oil to get from an over filled motor to your airbox is via such a tube.
Yep, pull the tank, check the plugs.
If you get stuck, let me know. I don't drink, but the car drinks gas.
Will pm you my land line, i got no cell coverage here.

People who know far better than me agree with everything sugilite is saying, so we can't add anything.

Had a quick look on net, seems crankcase breather enters air box LH top, maybe overfill from oil change plus running at higher rpms on cruise and
    maybe hotter?
I would check your oil level and run it half way between L and F for the trip home and keep an eye on it when u refuel.
There is a possibility that you have sucked some muck into the fuel filter by running it low(filter looks to be on end of fuel tap in tank) also may help
to drain carbs incase u have sucked a bit of water through.
I would clean up the airbox/filter first and check oil level, give it a decent run and see how I goes, good luck.
