    Firefox 29

May as well have a browser thread...

Another new "full version" (seriously, we're going to have 4 digit numbers before too long) but it brings another new interface. I do like the top bar gone, as it was a waste of space, but I still like the menu bar (have done since they took it away) but for a while I've been running the bookmarks toolbar next to the menu bar, and now this is at the very top of the screen, nice and tidy.

Apparently the memory issues won't be sorted until v30-32... oh well, still my preferred browser.

edit: Makes sense the double click in top left of window to close doesn't work... mmm, didn't use it too much I guess.

opera. any version before about 12 i think was when they gayed it up to look like macdroidwinblows ("retard with a smartphone" - lots of big shiny shit, but fucking hopeless to DO anything with) also at that time they fucked up their mail folder/storage/whatever the fuck so prev versions dont import into new versions. (EVER)

plus avail as mini and micro for smart phones. with syncy goodness.

F11 that shit and you're rock and roll. which is good if you dont have acres of screen space. or even if you do and you just want maximum p0rn.

    customisable like a motherfucker.

    seriously, opera. you cunts.

No way I want all my favourites syncing between every device. Perhaps between home and work desktops (but there are some I don't want synced ) but having all the shortcuts available on mobile, nah, I need a handful max.

With work and home desktops plus a laptop with me most of the time, the mobile isn't used too extensively for web stuff, even at 5" it's too small.

Given that the W3C aren't predicting HTML5 to be complete until 2022, you could be right about the number of browser versions that we're gonna end up with. Tis one of the reasons I can't stand HTML5 as it's sending us back to the Netscape v's IE compatibility issue days.
    I didn't think!!! I experimented!!!

Pah, escape compatibility, dreams are free... and yeah, I'd love my browser to load pages and work exactly the same irrespective of browser. Praps they'll get together and cherry pick the best of each and build a single browser

    Bugger

My Firefox install just updated itself to v29

    Ugly ugly ugly

It has that Windoze 8 look all over it

    And no rollback facility

At least it still works (sort of)

Note to self - must must must remember to turn off auto-updates

that would be "uninstall" and "delete all registry keys"
unless they use a live installer, downloading the old one shouldn't be a problem.

Updated to v29 and arrgh!!! - huge memory issues with laptop freezing and stalling and generally coughing about... was seriously thinking of moving to Comodo Ice Dragon... or throwing laptop out of window - but as it's work provided they mightn't be too pleased with that action. Did ask and was told "No!", but I could watch as someone else did it!

Then low and behold, v29.0.1 appears and all issues have vanished - just hope I haven't spoken too soon!

Still getting used to the new layout... bit like a new car - where's the ???

I have to use 2 different browsers at home, 3 different ones at work. None of which are IE.

Wasn't most of those issues tho caused by MS being, well, MS? i.e. not playing nice with anything other than their own.

Anyways just started FF 29; I think it starts slightly faster, has more rounded tabs etc but otherwise aint noticed much difference. But then I probably don't use it enough to notice the diff, it sits there as my 2nd or alternative browser I use Safari as main.

    Firefox ESR

Haven't tried it yet but Mozilla do provide a stable earlier version of FF. The concept is that it can be reliably used by organisations where everyone will be looking at the same browser, rather than different versions.

I understand FF ESR is up to 24 now so not exactly old.

The new browser on the block is Iron.

I used to love Opera until about 12 when it became bloated and unstable.

    Version
    12.10
    Build
    1652
    Platform
    Linux
    System
    x86_64, 3.2.0-4-amd64

stable as fuck. never had it bin on me. it must be the newer (12.5 - 13?) versions that are candy-ass gay.

talks nicely with ntfs partition to share directories with win7 x64, not with xp x86.
f@ck, and here i was thinking i had xp 64...
