I replaced the clutch fibres with some EBC kevlar plates and have confused my brain a little.
My Haynes manual suggests I should have 10 fibre and 9 steel plates but the old clutch only had 8 and 7 respectively.
While the new EBC kit came with 10 fibre plates, because I only have 7 steels I could only fit 8 fibre plates. Though the basket doesn't look deep enough to hold 10 plates anyway.
I reassembled the bike with 8/7 and the clutch seems to work ok, the take up point is where it should be though maybe a little soft. The lever travel from when the clutch begins to bite to when it feels complete seems further than previously. I imagine this will change once the newness wears off.
Is it likely the old clutch could have been something aftermarket with less plates than factory?
