    Thumbs up Fz6r lams

Just purchased a 2014 FZ6R as an upgrade for "she who must be obeyed". This is a LAMS restricted bike so legal for learner riders. My wife has ridden in the past but returned to m/cycles after many years away. Initially we bought a Yamaha Scorpio that has been a great bike for reintroduction to motorcycling but has been fairly quickly outgrown. SO the dilemma has been that my wife is from the UK and when emigrated did not cross over her M/cycle license so has had to start at the learner level all over again. Actually not a bad thing after such a long time off bikes.

We looked at many many options as an upgrade and the FZ6R has turned out to be a great choice for us. One or two points to note are - maybe not a great first time learner bike as although restricted it still has an impressive level of grunt in the low to mid power range . It is however a very smooth power delivery and an easy bike to ride. Great build quality and although 212kgs fully fuelled the weight is not an issue while moving and seat height of 785mm makes it pretty easy to flat foot and paddle around.

Have only done about 150km so far so will post updates as time allows. SO far big thumbs up for the Yamaha FZ6R

Nice bike. Hope you got a discount as they are fairly pricy RRP wise.

    Smile

Yep got a great deal from local dealer. Rick and the team at MCR have gone above and beyond as always. Have added a few extras and the only thing that is a negative is that it does not come with a centre stand you have to purchase this as an accessory. Already I can see my wife's confidence increasing and she has been smiling from ear to ear.

Thanks for the pics! I must apologise if there are any drool stains on the bike... I oogled it a few times going in there.

I see you own a Ninja 250. We looked hard at buying one of those for my wife to learn to ride on but she choose the Scorpio as she felt the style of the Ninja was a little to sporty for her and look what she is riding now, go figure.

She is still a little nervous on the FZ but getting more confident each time we take it out. Planning a short ride down to Waihola tomorrow and home via Taieri Mouth.

We have got a Demo FZ6-R at Motorcycle Central Yamaha in Barrys Point Rd in Takapuna if anyone wants to try one. I have just run in our New Demo and it is a really nice bike to ride.

I'm sure I read somewhere that any Model number that included "R" was automatically excluded from LAMS. Is this not so?

These are definitely LAMS bikes. They have a mechanically restricted throttle.

So reds are more expensive because they go faster, is that right?

So this is what we know. It is definitely a mechanical restriction on the throttle plate. The plate can be modified to allow for full throttle. If you don't want to modify the existing throttle plate I think there is a company in Aussie that can supply a new plate for about $150 aus. There is a video on u-tube https://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...&v=AjRGg1mzR3g that shows how to derestrict. There is absolutely "no" electronic restriction.

The funny thing is that there is no mention of the bike being a LAMS approved or a restricted bike on the registration papers. The good thing about this is that when you gain your full licence class you can have the bike de-resticted for a minimal cost. Its like at the moment you are riding a pretty grunty 400cc but when legal you get the benefit of a full horsepower 600cc bike.

Just to add. This bike is more than capable as is. We have even ridden two up over distance and the bike does not lack in any area. You can notice the restriction under hard acceleration but at legal speeds etc it is more than fine.

FWIW We think it is truly a great all rounder!!

Mother Yamaha got it so right this time around
