    Solid peg thread

Well my night for being controversial. Since we start we've run folding pegs
First was to get some safety of getting levered off from std non folding low pegs, but then kart tracks demanded it.
But I think that the most danger of track damage is from the peg mount with the peg folded up.

Perhaps the best solution is a short sturdy peg with a well anchored slider.

Say 60mm metal M10 bolt, acetal end.

But will any tracks have an issue with this these days?

    Timely Dave,
Last little bit we have been working on getting something going up here (as you know).
Writing up what how things would be checked and managed etc. I spent a bit of time trying to figure this out.
I always mussed with the Wellington rule and wandered where this actually came from.
Back in the day when I use to come down (before you lost access to the track); we were advised that solid pegs nylon ends (fitted over the solid pegs) were the only acceptable option, folding was fround upon due to exposing a lot of the metally bike bits to the track surface.

Solid pegs nylon covered (along with other nylon protection) offers far more than the current setup. Some of the sh!t set ups (folding) that I have seen in resent years; do us no favours. It is soooo much easier to build good solid stuff.

The next trick is making a simple nylon/plastic fairings to offer up more track protection.
Scotty has been thinking about rotary moulding something suitable. I've been amazed at some of my spills with the fairings on and only paint is left on the track. Dissipation of energy over a large surface is the key.

That is how mine are set up - my feeling is that a folding peg exposes brake and gear levers. Easy to bolt on a spare peg as required.

25mm Solid nylon pegs bolted on with m10 bolt, drilled and tapped pegs are solid and hold the bike up of the track, only issue is if you get your leg between the peg and track .

I made some solid pegs back in the day but knocked one off in a lurid slide. Too spindly too long. Stopped using them when it was mentioned that some tracks insisted on folding.

So how do we get a concensus of what tracks will allow? Then Fxr peg manufacture

How much damage does a binned bucket actually do to a track? I've seen a few scratches and fiberglass lines left by buckets but never any real damage to the surface of the track. I always thought this issue was over dramatized by the Kart clubs (that unfortunatly own the tracks).
I always had clipons and solid pegs both with nylon plugs so when binned not much else touched the track.

We've seen a bit. deep gouges left, often parallel, besides smears of nylon of a slider that didn't stop something hitting the ground & digging a trench.

As you know Dave, im a fan of solid footpegs which is why my bikes have aluminum pegs with acetal inserts in the end of them. They work really well at holding the bad parts of the bike off the track in a crash.

Solid acetal are no good as they will snap in the case of a decent crash and are also miserably slippery when wet!
