    MIG welders?

I've got a cheap ryobi welder that replaced my equally cheap SIP one that I had for years. controls consist of wire speed and some amperage buttons.
Its time to upgrade, but as I don't use it a lot do not want to go mad.
Bought an owner bottle as I'm tired of monthy BOC bill.

did a bit of research on the net and these come up as one of the better Chinese cheapies?
    Any one got one?

    Oh....moved to rant and rave...

Well my Ryobi welder is a product of a Global conspiracy by the Americans with artificial exchange rates based not on how hard I work but how the banks make profits.

I think you'll find Ryobi is a Japanese brand.

I have a particularly nasty resin core gasless Repco sourced mig that I can do particularly nasty looking welds with. I am truely not very talented with it, but it got a workout last night on a muffler & damn I'm glad I have it.

I bought this setup a while ago. Hobart Handler 140. Just under $500 for the welder and about $120 for the bottle full of gas. I have done some light stuff so far and it performs well. I did a test butt weld with 1/4" mild steel (6mm for you colonial types) with no problem at all. I am pretty sure it will weld up to 3/8 (10mm) plate with a bit of pre heat and a couple of passes. Money well spent I say.

These run mint and give you options for DC Tig & Spoolgun down the track. Waitemata Hydraulics have the same deal too if you're of the western persuasion.

If your going to go down the chinese route, make sure its a IGBT inverter. MOSFET is out.
Also buy one from Ezitools. They do after sale repairs and will replace parts from free if they don't work straight out of the box.
    160amp will be fine

    So many out there.
    Those JASIC ones look ok,http://mytools.co.nz/products/jasic-...nverter-welder
    so do these http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/List...x?id=713472500
Had a look at my old one and its duty cycle is 25%.... oddly made in Italy and rebranded Ryobi.
Its been ok but time for a better one.
I mainly do car panel stuff, fuel tank welding, and the odd bit of up to 6mm.
