Police cause more than half the crashes

    ... In the central district

According to information released to the Taranaki Daily News under the Official Information Act, police were to blame for 152 vehicle crashes out of 250 recorded in the central district between 2009 and 2013.

Repair costs for crashes involving patrol cars for the five year period came to $451,111.

    Replacement costs totalled $258,690.

Central police district covers Taranaki across to Ruapehu, south to Otaki and across to the Tararua ranges in the east.

But don't worry I'm sure they were all fined just the same as any non-patched citizen would have been

i love how most of those are "X vs Police car" (opposed to "police car vs...")
because obviously the train swerved into their path.

I can't remember the year, but after a few months police chases were responsible for more than half of the fatalities in Auckland.

It's not the speed it's the reckless driving.

I had a copper do a youee in front of me the other day, no indicator or other warning. Glad we were only in a 50k zone. The look on his face when he realized his fuckup, was all the apology I needed.

Holy hell. What ACC levy do police cars have to pay?

Just thinking about this, if we took all police cars off the road, we would reduce crashes by 60%.

    Just saying thats all.

i Had one overtake me in the pouring rain at the end of the passing lanes and over a double yellow line at Maramarua last month only to do a big brake stop when he noticed the car he was chasing was already on the side of the road waiting (good citizen). I was hard on breaks in a large ute with a trailer on loaded up with race bike and all the gear. This fellaq was lucky i had good brakes and a good modern car with all the gizmos on to stop it.

It was bad enough i stopped 100m down the road and made the walk back in the rain to inform him of his intelligence. Much to the delight of the citizen waiting his punishment, which he ended up not getting by the way. Not sure if i had something to do with that or not.

Police caused over half if all reported accidents. I'm guessing every police accident will be reported whereas any civilian accident would prefer if it wasn't reported.

Who here always says statistics can be manipulated to say anything? Case and point.
