My guess is it's actually a media paraphrase of "Police cause more than half the crashes they're involved in" as I couldn't imagine the central districts only have had 250 odd reported crashes for all motorists over 5 years.
Still, either way it's not a good look for the central districts division of NZ's biggest gang; Being involved in a crash is one thing but fact they're the cause of over half of them

Spot on. Never take any statistics with more than a passing interest.
An example I was give by the prof waaaay back before I new everything was:
The safest colour car on New Zealand roads is pink. There has never been a reported accident involving a pink car.

At that time there was one pink car registered in NZ

I'm not defending any police action/inaction, just saying statistics can be manipulated any which way.

Yeh but isn't the national average well over 60% anyway?

No fucking way, the chances of a crash (usually involving two parties) being caused by one party is like fifty-fifty man! Get the frock out of here! Shut the front door!

    Sometimes I wonder, Steve.
