    MNZ new board member

    Hi All
Well I think someone must of been holding my arm in the air when the question went out for nominees for four new positions on the Board of Motorcycling New Zealand. My success at gaining one of those (road north island position) seems to have happened quicker than losing the front on a cold tyre.
I stood against the experienced Paul Stewart for the position, - but Paul withdraw and stood for one of the other board positions, but was unsuccessful. I thank Paul for his help with getting introduced to the new position, and wish him all the best for the future.
I was therefore unopposed, - so instead of thanking those members that did vote for me, - I'll have to thank those that were "intending" to vote for me!
I now join fellow Kiwibiker Kevin Goddard - who is also a current MNZ board member.

My position does not allow me to discuss board matters or any governance issues in public of course, However part of being a board member means I can seek input from various sectors on matters relating to MNZ and its members. I can also offer answers on any information that is "public knowledge" such as MNZ organizational structure and whom to direct / ask your questions to if you are not sure.

My personal policy is to have transparency, clear lines of communication, empowerment of key positions - and also to have a foundation structure in place that is as flat as possible and as accountable as possible so that members can understand how the MNZ body works, and "who" is responsible for "what"

I have already gained some solid input from key industry players and will continue to seek information from those that are willing to share their experience and provide constructive input.

    Cheers
    Glen Williams

As long as you keep your above statement at the forefront, you shouldn't go wrong. Putting MNZ GB minutes on the website would help too.

Hi Scrivy, Yep I understand it is very common practice for modern type boards to run this policy, and I have only ever seen long-term positive outcomes result from sharing information with your own members.

Good luck Glen. Let me know when you're standing for President.
Transparency without being able to discuss things in public seems a little bit at odds but I think ANYTHING is a start.

Thanks Skunk, And - Thanks for showing a face at the recent MNZ AGM, People such as yourself that have a vast depth of knowledge in the road race sector are extremely valuable assets particularly to all our road members.
Greg Percivals presentation as road race commissioner showed a refreshing vision whilst still having strong support for much of the work completed by the outgoing commissioner (Graeme Billington). I think with the right tools and support Greg will thrive and his self imposed mission to increase both competitor and member numbers provides him with a goal that sets the standard even higher.

You have a way with words re that transparency comment HaHa, However there are a number of quite simple and immediately effective no cost options that can be considered and is common practice with most modern-day governing boards - one of which Scrivy has already pointed out.

Sorry Glen, you seem to be out of touch already...
The reactions I have had from the MNZ Office, some members of the Board and my old club - they tell me I'm not wanted. I'll be doing nothing much. Enjoy your journey.
