At the end of the day Craig has been tasked with sponsorship.

If Whites Wholesale are willing to give money to MNZ in return for MNZ to not-so-subtly advertise their wares in news bulletins then I'm all for it. In an email just now Craig claims he's getting MNZ members the benefit of free postage. Draggin' Jeans are $229 in stores, so where's the margin going? (hint: it's not going into the postage)

I'm all for MNZ having some passive income. I just doubt it's worth their effort, those Draggin' Jeans retail for $229 and most bike shops stock them, all you're gaining is free postage, a saving of like $13. Whoopdie-fuckin'-doo, that'll go a long way to making my racing a whole lot cheaper in the next 12 months. I was planning on purchasing a pair of Draggin' Jeans to race in

I just think it was a poorly executed pitch, the wrong product, to the wrong crowd (only slightly wrong). That is what made it weird, kinda like receiving a call at 3am from the LTSA offering to sell me air fresheners.....it's like.... 'wat?'

If MNZ had been offering something like top brand engine fluids or leathers, boots, helmets etc for half RRP, in a elegant format that was better executed then NZ retailers might have something to worry about.

Cheap accommodation, transport, and ferry crossings though at the cost of a blurb in the bottom of emails would be totally acceptable, even welcomed.

edit: I should point out that Whites Wholesale take good care of their retailers, MNZ wouldn't be allowed to do this if Whites through it would harm retailers.

they were an opposition product, running down draggin jeans, (which are imported by whites, who sponsor a number of races, and racers and have done for a long time)

but the rest of the post i agree with,

(when i read it first time i thought it was draggin jeans they were selling as well)

oooooooooh yeah, I just re-read the email, thanks for the heads up.

So the original email I recieved states:
"The protective layer in these jeans has the highest abrasion rating in the world...by far! Draggin jeans boast about their 4.4 seconds, Resurgence Jeans Pekev range passed at 23.2 seconds! That's not a miss print!"

I wouldn't take that as slander, but it's a bit low brow to outright state "Draggin' Jeans boast...", something like "Other brands boast..." would have been more suitable. I can see how Whites might take exception and potentially reconsider their involvement in the sport.

Oh well, Craig is off to a good start then! no publicity is bad publicity right?

Another MNZ hamfisted half arsed blunder. No surprises there then. What a bloody shame NZ motorcyclists can't be represented in a professional manner.

Moreover its crossing a line that shouldnt be crossed, disenfranchising retailers even further from making a living.

MNZ should be concentrating on their core functions, nothing more.

It's a brain fart at best. Anyone in PR knows the first absolute is to understand your client.
