Yeah he did. Things like the crank wobbling so much it took out the crank sensor, it cracked the cases, snapped a bolt holding the balance weight together and other stuff.
I don't think it's the way to go though. If you want to get rid of the piston and conrod you should really make a custom crank and cam shafts to suit 3 cylinders.
Something along the lines of how Ducati did the Supermono would be the go, ie pull the piston and replace it with a lever
