Renaissance is another favorite of mine

boundary road flying fortress is my 'go to' beer for parties.

    Mine too.
I just picked up (read - bought for an outrageous price) a case of Sierra Nevada "Northern Hemisphere Harvest Wet Hop Ale". An American IPA with a moderate 6.7% ABV and a lovely session Ale - (for me, these days, a session is 2 bottles)Click image for larger version.

Renaissance 'Elemental' and Tuatara 'Black' are both favourites.

If you're after big hops give the Liberty brews a go - 'Monster' or 'Scarlet'.

Garage Project have some excellent efforts, 'Cockswain's Courage' is brilliant but will set you back a few bob.

Harringtons 'Baltic-Ler' is one of their better ales, or a 'Wobbly Boot'.

If you hadn't guessed already I mostly like my beer black!

Boundary Road are produced by an RTD manufacturer and it shows. Good beer doesn't need extra flavouring.

Countdown budget pick: Krombacher pils. 6packs or single big bottles. Give it a whirl.

Emersons is similarly competent in taste, but more often available on draught.

Moa has been OK... Not had the one described as being bad. Moa Original seems a safe bet.

Monteiths is nice enough to drink, but is like an 'alcopop' version of real ale.

Speig.... OK. Let's not go there just now.

Best IPA I've (so far) had in NZ is the Good George. Too strong for anything more than sipping one with a meal when riding, but very clean and very tasty.

On a budget but want something that tastes like beer? Lion Brown mixed with Waikato Draught. Don't get excited - it's not great. But it is better than it has any right to be.

I just had Good George IPA at a pub this weekend, my favourite beer so far! I might stop by their brewery for a sampler pack.

I think it was the Bow St Depot in Raglan where we tried the GG IPA.
Very pleasant, as you've found. I'm keeping my eyes open for bottles, but haven't found any yet. Not looking in the right places, obviously.

I'm kinda getting over the whole "craft brew" thing now.
Some are awesome but there are too many now which taste like shit (to my taste buds anyway) and you pay a farken fortune for them.
So its back to local generic stuff for me (all though anything which is German is all good)
Bring back flagons of Lion Brown I say !!!

...same here, I had a bit of a dabble at goin' out to have a nice beer, nine bucks a pint...... got sick of speights, chased crates of Muddy Waters around for a bit too...you need a bunch of students from the Waikato, living in the neighborhood for one of the bottlestores to stock it...and I dont drink stuff outta green bottles, generally...I'm back to the cheapest shit that one of the big supermarkets do, and it will suffice for now... twenty bucks for twenty cans, has a good ring to it...

    I know what you mean.

We love 'good' beer, but frankly, Lion Brown is cheap as and (to us) tastes OK. So a box of cans, and a six-pack of something special, and we're sweet.
