Went to central Christchurch for the first time since the earthquake last weekend. In an old job I used to go every few weeks so knew the centre of town quite well. Fuck me. Amongst all the new car parks, empty but for the odd crane, the hotel had a view of a building on Hereford Street with curtains flapping through the multitude of broken windows. A new view, given the Heritage is no more, but I kind of expected a bit more work to have been done by now. How long has it been? No coffee, no bars, no kebabs and no burgers. A bit more Beirut than Balclutha.
