Well, that's three weak as piss Honda motors fucked and ready for scrap. If I wasn't so prepared for it to happen, I'd have lit the match and walked off. Instead, I got in my car and came home. Think can just fucken sit there and rot.
I'm done with it.
First one developed a bottom end knock after about 10 minutes run time, then locked up.
Next one dropped a valve, and the piston shattered apon trying to push the valve through the head.
This one sounds like a cam is binding up, goes 'squeeze squeeze squeek. I habe yet to investigate further.
I've got one head left from the one with bottom end concerns. Provided the bottom end issue wasn't a big end and the sudden stop from the piston hitting the head.
On the bright side, at least your car is pretty chur.
I had a car squeaking the other day after an overheat, it sounded like the fan belt. It turned out to be compression escaping between the head & block. Alloy block Beemer, block was as soft as cheese & the car was scrapped.
Back when they were new and optimists were bringing them out in numbers for F3, valves dropping was the most common cause of failure.
Then big ends. Bear in mind they were made around the same time Honda were making the V4's and not finishing the oil holes on the cranks...
ANY plain bearing crank I do now gets a long hard squint at the edges of the oil holes - and radiused where it's not good enough.
Guy we travelled with one year did 3 CBR400RR engines in one season - all valves dropping. One at the WSB round, one at Wanganui, one down here. The wreckers did well out of him.
Im thinking its the user... HONDA are the mutts nutts man, shit had a atv200 given to me the other day, hasent run in over 3yrs, didnt even drain the cab wired it up to the guzzi and started straight away... farking Honda aye, love em and besides Drewwwwwww... ya meet the nicest people on a Honda
cheers DD
(Definately Dodgy)
Yeah i think it's a case of the Honda's not liking their shitty owners and harakiring themselves.
Story goes that the rsv4 or something was designed around the fireblade. They put it up on the dyno and let it run to see how long it would last. Engineers report was that the fucking thing wouldn't die even when drained of oil.
It seems I have discovered another reason that Honda sports bikes are fucken shit bro.
Oh joy, I've just remembered there's still a CBR600 hurricane motor in a 400 frame in the shed. Mind. That motor is getting sent out for a waking by a professional, so it better not be like these other bits of shit.
Nothing suitable left here sorry - the last GSX400 motor I saw for sale was up your way and the bastard wanted an arm and leg for it.
DD - Your post is pretty self explanatory - you hooked it up to the Guzzi...Those things have (and have to have..) a battery big enough to fire a bloody hercules...I bet it just ground over till everything decided to move in the right sequence.
Blocked oil gallery to the right hand side of the head somewhere. Surfaces aren't too bad, so I'll sand the cam and fix the oil starving. AnY more issues after that and it's getting a brick on the accelerator and left to explode.
