    Repping

I wasn't going to start a new thread, but thought this topic would be more in line with the site and more applicable to the general membership.

The ability to give positive rep is a good add on in general I believe, (!...), as we all like to compliment others on well thought out posts, or for giving information we value.

In talking with some members, most seem to ignore the ability to red rep someone as they feel it is unconstructive. I will say that I have, IMHO, received two red-reps in the last 8 years that I did deserve and the rep was accompanied by the reason for it, or I could understand the reason for it and responded to the repper appropriately and apologising for causing the offense.

However it is notable, and borne out again by talking about this with other members, that there are a very few on here who seem to take the view that by red-repping other members, it will upset them or make them cry or something, and some are really childish to be honest.

How do most members feel about the repping system and do most use it at all?

Seldom use it for constructive feedback and even less so (very rarely) for negative. I will say what I feel is worth saying in the thread.

I despise people who use red rep like a hit and run Molotov attack. The opinions of people who can't constructively respond in the same format (in the thread) to what ever I may have said that upset them, is regarded as totally worthless....... like water off a ducks back. Total waste of time.

Some very funny comments have come through with rep, and it keeps the threads more clear of back-patting etc.

I use both, sometimes with a comment, sometimes with out. How it affects the recipient is entirely up to them. And in response to the comment about not inputting into the thread, sometimes I just don't want to be dragged into the discussion.

I haven't used negative rep for a long time.

I use positive rep regularly when I read something I think is good advice; when someone gives a different view that I think is inspired or "on the money", or when I strongly agree with something.

    For you?

The few red reps I've ever got only make me laugh so if that's what you intended, yes.

I received a red in 2007 and I still haven't gotten over it. One day...

Nice to see you starting another thread, Ed. I got a butt-load of green from that last little gem of yours
