And I was wondering if anyone had any tips to putting on weight. Like what foods are fatty but not totally unhealthy.

The most I've ever weighed is 48kg's and now I'm down to a pityful 41kg's which is the lowest I've been in about 6 years...

I'm much like my father in the sense that we're both skinny critters, and I've always had a problem putting on weight and then keeping it on...

    Any tips or suggestions?
Stay away from high fats - it's not the kind of weight you're after.
Start hoeing into chicken / muesli - the high protein / fibre.

Another thing is that a 10min sprint round the block 2 or 3 times a week will more than likely trigger your body to go 'holy fuck i'm hungry now...'
    Because I can...

Agree that you need to see a GP. You need to eliminate the possibility of some sort of medical reason for your weight loss.

With all due respect to those above that say 'eat more' it may not be that simple. It's a strange thing in this world of Weight Watchers etc, but some of us have to battle just to maintain a healthy weight.

Do you eat a lot of fatty food? Like fried stuff etc? When I used to eat that sort of thing I LOST huge amounts of weight- my body couldn't digest it and I was expending more energy trying to process it than what I was getting out of it. Strange but true. When I switched to healthy food and joined a gym I put on 8kg of muscle in 8 weeks and was accused of taking steroids! The weight gain leveled off after that, as I had merely achieved a 'normal' weight.

*Gets a bit icky now* It's also possible that you have lost the lining in your bowel. This means you can't digest your food properly. Symptoms are smelly farts and lots of them (undigested nutrients fermenting) and dioreah (sp?) or constipation. It can be caused by an allergy to a food , such as wheat, or a type of protien or enzyme, such as the lactose in milk etc. Just because you have always eaten a type of food without problems is no guarantee that it's OK to eat it now. I used to drink litres of milk a day- I used to keep a house cow 'in milk'. When I left home even 2 pigs couldn't keep up and the house cow went dry! Now I can't drink the stuff, and eating a food with even a small amount of milk products in it is risky. There are tests that can be done to test for things like crones and wheat allergies etc, but for lactose the only method I'm aware of is 'elimination'. You cut out all dairy products for a couple of months, monitor how you go, and then reintroduce them.

If you suspect that you may have lost your bowel lining, then get thee to thy chemist and buy some Reuteri (Roy-too-rie). These are capsules that contain millions of the good bacteria that you need to absorb nutrients. It's the same sort of stuff that is found in acidif... acedof... that fancy yoghurt. But it's much more effective as most of the good stuff in the yoghurt is killed off by the acids in your stomach, whereas the capsules are designed to dissolve after the stomach. Plus IF you are lactose intolerant you can't eat yoghurt in the first place (god I miss it- and cheese!!! )

    Hope that helps.

A nice big huge fat steak, with bread and blue cheese, onion, lettuce and potato chips.

    God I'm hungry.

seriously though.. tons of Carbo (Breads, Pasta, Potatoes, etc) back that up with a good dose of Protien from red meat.

i used to play Gridiron and wrestle.. during the football season.. i would pack on the carbo and avoid it during the wrestling season.. went from 270 pounds in one part of the year to 240 in the other ( not fat either.. i was in the gym 3 days a week and running 5 miles a day)

for those of you who are metric-centric...
    ( 270 pounds = 123 kg.. 240 = 108 kg [what i weigh now]) 5 miles = 8 km
Donuts and beer... I like donuts... but no offense to NZ, I havn't found a "real" donut in the 5 years I've been here As for beer... Sam will like that... I've heard that one beer a day is healthy for you... plus the stuff in beer (is it yeast?) can help you put on weight... thats why most men have big guts lol

*can try the one beer a day thing... all I need to do is find a beer I like....*

If it is your diet that's at fault then I would recommend seeing a dietitian to work out the most appropriate foods for you to eat to gain weight and be healthy. It might also be worthwhile having allergy tests. I used to have a bit of trouble with my weight (I was a bit heftier then) - had allergy tests done and discovered that I have an allergy to wheat. When I cut down my bread intake the weight fell off me.

If all that fails then become a supermodel!!
Yeah my gran's been hassling me to see a Dr, just for a check up. But I don't wanna go pay $50 or whatever for him to say "you need to eat more" (which is whats happened in the past). But I'll look into that option.

As for the supermodel... lol I dunno... they wear too much make up (see pic below of ugly supermodels... and no I'm not that bad lol)

Yeah my Gran and one Aunt have Osteoporosis, I should start looking after myself better

mmmm chicken muesli sucks though... Sam eats that...

As for the run lol... I used to run cross country back home in school, and played A team hockey and volleyball.. but I'm a lazy smoker now... Sam and I tired to join soccer... lasted 3 weeks then couldn't be bothered... but we play hackey often... does that count?

In all seriousness, though, PF, see a doc and get basic bloods done to make sure everything's ticking over OK.

Then stop smoking. I can't give diet and training advice in good conscience without saying this. Getting off the cancer sticks will do wonders to help you gain (good) weight, too. Your call, of course.

Then go see a nutritionist and a personal trainer, and get a proper eating plan and lifting programme at the gym going. The difficulty with asking on KB for specific advice is that, well, none of us are qualified to give it.

Your basic problem appears to be that you're just not taking care of your health.

Do the above, and in 12 months time you won't know yourself.
I know I should quit smoking... I stopped last year for over 3 months... and seriously EVERYONE was telling me to start smoking again because I turned into the moodiest little bitch ever... and I didn't gain any weight those 3+ months I wasn't smoking...

I refuse to join a gym... waste of money.. would rather spend that $20 a week on my bike and run around the block than pay $20 a week to be a room full of sweaty people going "my arms are bigger than your Rambo" lol

But your right I'm not looking after myself properly

lol no I'm not any of those chicks... they are just wrong... how something that skinny can be classed as a model and actually get paid to be a walking skeleton is digusting... and thats why so many youth today have eating disorders... they think they need to be that skinny to "fit in"... to fit in what? A straw?

I find the donuts here are too dry... I've never tried Budweiser...

I used to love a Berr Shandy called "Frosties or Frostys", but again I havn't been able to find them here in NZ.

    merlot? Is that red wine?
