If you think our ads are bad they don't much about in Northern Ireland, first vid was banned, can see its not speed though, it was that kid with his voodoo doll car toy all along, WARNING end of vid may be disturbing to some.

The others are not too bad and I like how the cycle one covers both sides at same time and the pay attention one doesn't mention speed at all.
NZTA could take note as stuff like this is actually absorbed instead of brushed off as it makes a bit more sense than the tired speed message.

Where's the "bad" part of each video meant to be? The part where the kids get run over is so obviously fake that it's laughable. Not that there's anything funny about kids being run over IRL that is.

I just meant the first one was bad but the other two make sense compared to the stuff they come up with here.

The first one is really no worse movies and TV shows. The people with nothing better to do with their time will still get their knickers in a twist over it though.

Best thing they could do for safety is to put in some bloody reflectors. Didn't realize what a pain fog on a road you don't know was without them till fanging around there a bit.

The last ad was great, they said the main cause of accidents was basically not taking care. Top 6 causes of accidents all involved a lack of care. No mention of speed, 2200 injuries/deaths.... Nothing to do with speed (speed may have made a serious injury become a death, but speed hasn't been a factor in the top 6 reasons for crashes).

Like a health and safety campaign I saw at a job site "just give a shit". Simple, giving a shit would probably reduce the road toll tenfold.

Exactly. But making people take responsibility for their actions is in the "too hard" basket, so it's easier to make up mindless propaganda that the sheep will believe, and it has the added bonus of making money too.

I lived in Cork for a couple of years in the early 00's
I brought a Kombi Camper and BSA Lightning with me on NZ plates.
What a drama getting them road legal there, I needed to prove I had lived out of Ireland for over a year, Campers do not require a WOF equivalent but need an engineers cert for first rego. Motor cycle do not require one either.
Kombi was LHD and insurance was for the first year 1000 euros and its compulsory, but being a camper road tax was minimal.
Cars are road taxed on CC's so you hardly ever saw a car over 3 litres.
New drivers can only get insurance for 1400 cc or less, insurance rules there.
Standard of driving was better there, probably as they don't have a 'no fault' scheme and have to take some personal responsibility.
More recently you can't teach your kids to drive anymore so I have head.
For school trips my kids had to get additional insurance maybe 5 euros, and they closed down the ice rink due to insurance.

Sounds like Ireland OSH are still trying to replenish the population after the potato famine by not letting anyone get a bruise ice skating....

Insurance companies seemed to be doing the driving.
OSH there was ahead of NZ then, used to take me 1/2 a day of inductions to get on pharmaceutical sites that we worked on, then all the permits to work.
Once they get the laws here approved going to be a big shake up.....oh joy.

We could only get one of their insurance companies to insure us on NZ licences when we first bought a car. That worked out to about 1,100 euro per year for a '99 1.6 Focus in 2005. Irish licences plus an advanced driving cert cut the insurance to a respectable 6-700 euro/year.

That's what you get when insurance is compulsory.

But yeah, the Irish standard of driving was better than in NZ.

We cycled through shitloads of countries in Europe for 5 months and then came back to Christchurch. Faaaarrrrrrk.

I'd go as far as to suggest the ACC has dumbed Kiwis Down to a " Mummy will fix it " attitude.

We had bikes, cycled around the WW1 battlefields in Belgium and France, parts of Germany. Would I ride one on the road here. no. Talking " I'm in a hurry Auckland as I'm important" here.
