I do not think it is about color at all, it is a misguided belief that people in higher societal positions deserve to be treated differently than the rest of us common folk.
Get rid of all royalty, black, white, yellow, whatever. And anyone else that think they are above the law, politicians, diplomats. We need more riots.

For a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him.Keep an open mind, just dont let your brains fall out.
I'll assume the judge was thinking that if the kid has something to work towards, like becoming maori king, then he might knuckle down and start acting like a law abiding citizen of this country. With a conviction he doesnt have the goal to work towards. I would hope there was an arrangement with the Maori king to punish and reform the kid using traditional methods. (whack em...)
What looks like is more likely to happen is that he see's he gets away with acting acting however he wants and will continue doing so either because he knows he can get away with it or because he doesnt want to become the next maori king. (I dont think he deserves to hold thins honor now anyway)
First of all, not all of us regard the Tainui leader as our "king" so he does not reign over all us Māori.
Secondly, it is not a hereditary position - rather the king is selected by Tainui elders
Thirdly, his grandmother (Te Arikinui Dame Te Atarangi Kahu) would have made sure someone kicked his arse ...
And fourthly, the others who committed the burglary and thefts were also not convicted - they were discharged without conviction before this kid got to court - his lawyer argued, justifiably, that he could not be treated any different than the others.
And finally - Not good at all ... I do not support this ... sure he should be treated equally with his co-offenders .. they should have been convicted and sentenced .. this is just a bullshit response from the courts .. He can't even claim a disadvantaged background .. the family's rich !!!
And fucking "royalty" is a colonizers concept ... many of us refuse to buy into that bullshit anyway ..
(Oh and finally .. all you Pākehā can butt out - how he is treated by the courts is open for comment - whether he deserves to be "king" is Tainui's business.)
"So if you meet me, have some sympathy, have some courtesy, have some taste ..."
What punishment was given to Hone Harawera's nephew who followed a 12 year old kid home, beat him up and stole his playstation?
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?
He has no defence .. he did it - AND he pleaded GUILTY !!!
"So if you meet me, have some sympathy, have some courtesy, have some taste ..."
