    LAMS approved bike in Auckland

    Hi guys,

Does anyone have something a bit more fun to ride like a CBR or a ZXR they might consider selling in Auckland?
Even a V-twin is fine but I want a fully faired sports bike, nothing like a hornet or VTR

Looking to pay around 3k mark for one.

    Thanks

Hey, what's wrong with a VTR!?

I used to have one and I found it more fun to ride than my 2008 Ninja. I've never ridden one but I've heard Hornets are great too.

Might be hard to find something fully faired for 3k that isn't crashed/dropped/old/high kms. Naked learner bikes ftw!

Nah nothing wrong with VTR or Hornets, I just don't like the riding position. Ninjas are a bit small for my liking too.
Don't mind something that is a bit old but decent condition and cared for well.

    Fair enough, althought I would've thought they'd be similar to a GSX250.

Just thought you might be ruling out those two bikes only because they're a naked style. I almost did the same but was glad I ended up with one.

Good luck with your search anyway!

Nah I don't mind the naked style, I'd love a KTM Duke or DRZ.
But it's just a personal preference thing for now.

Surely there must be something around! I see some horrid ones listed on trademe...
but this is pretty acceptable http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/moto...-757154803.htm
However mileage is so high and there is no proof that the motor was rebuilt...

I personally wouldn't go anywhere near something that old with mileage that high, unless you're mechanically minded and able to fix things that go wrong yourself.

Those older four cylinder bikes are the best sounding 250s though.

I've got one that is at over 80,000 and it runs awesomely. Had the same concerns but took the plunge and have enjoyed my time with it. Great bikes.

For 3k I doubt you'll be getting a minter of anything.
I also prefer having fairings as they definitely make riding a warmer experience for me.

    Considering this one... http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/moto...-757816880.htm

Anyone know anything about it? What should I look for if I go view it? 1989 seems quite old though and 6 monthly warrants sucks but still

Talk me out of this! http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/moto...-757921819.htm

I'll mainly be using it for commuting, are 2 strokes even okay for that?

It's slow enough that you will have to be raping it when commuting anyway.

That RS125 went for cheap! What kinda life (mileage) would you expect to get out of the motor seeing as it's 2 stroke?

    Bump, still looking

Mine is up to about 15k kms and still going strong. Top end checks start at the next service from memory and mandatory around the 20k mark. 4000 km service intervals are not as bad as they sound as there is so liitle too them theres not much involved.

Top end kit will run you about 150 bucks from the UK, 300 ish if you want a new cylinder too.

Mine hasn't really been ridden since I got the zx6 and I keep eyeing up ninja 250s with the notion of getting involved in production racing. You are welcome to arrange a test ride - even if you don't like my one you'll get an idea of what they are like to ride
