Hope all turns out well for you guys. Look after yourself to dude, no good you getting sick also, I think it a big help to our sick loved ones if we can stay as happy and positive for a good result. And laughter is really a great medicine, so brush up on your comedy. Stay strong dude.

Hi all... Day 9 of her time in hospital..

Vicki is out of the HDU (yippee) and is starting with the basics like walking a few steps...

Its a huge step towards recovery so we are all very happy about it as it was touch and go for a while there.... sheesh... Now we just need to get her off the oxygen and the old lungs going again and we should be thinking about bringing her home...

Now this is the kind of news I like to hear. Time to take a deep breath now and concentrate on getting home.

    Much love to you both.

    Good. Very good.

Don't rush the home thing, the service is probably better in the ward, eh?

Yesterday was really a big leap forwards...

We managed a two walks around the ward (me dragging the oxygen) and I got a lecture about what clothes would be 'appropriate' for her to go home in (sheesh)... Apparently the raggy old trackies she was wearing when she was admitted just wont do at all... My my how things change...

The doctor is also hinting she can come home in a 'few' days if she behaves and things keep improving...

Thank goodness... What a ride this has been.

This has been a very educational experience...

You certainly don't need to be a genius walking around the wards to pick out some of the common complicating issues that the sicker patients have in common. I mean that does not absolutely guarantee you wont get sick or anything BUT it increases your chances of survival by factors of lots...

Two weeks back Vicki and I rode our mountain bikes down to paekak and back for lunch and this after her carpal tunnel/trigger finger operation so she still had pretty good residual fitness. I know how sick she was and some of these people could host a mountain bike park on their stomachs FFS.. and the crap they eat/smoke/drink.... Sweet jesus...

I tell you it was an eye opener.... If ever I needed an extra driver to work harder this is it...

    Day 10. Sigh...

Vickis improving all the time but... This pesky infection and fluid on her lungs are proving quite resilient. Her temperature is still too high and shes still on oxygen.

Sigh.... The doctors 'few' days might just be a few more days yet... argh... Still she walked a lot more today, me tagging along with the oxygen cylinder but when the poor thing developed a cold sweat sheen on her face it was time to get back to the room... Feck.... 3 weeks ago we had a great ride on our mountain bikes - then WHAM.... lifes been 'difficult' since then and shit I don't know how the hell people with serious long term illness cope... I had a haircut today - social high point of the month... LOL

Patience Paul, difficult as that must be. Vicky is in the safest place possible at the moment. Don't be in a rush to get her home. Everything changes at that point, all the hospital support is gone and its just the two of you. Been there as have many others. Keep Vicky in hospital until she is well.

Give you a smile. Mark and I came back from our 4 days off a month yesterday. Really relaxed and rested. Innocently went to bed last night expecting nothing more than a great nights sleep. Fecking smoke alarm went off at 2:30am. I may have sworn a few really rude words,
luckily I look wonderful in my dressing gown at that hour of the night as I race upstairs to see where the "fire" is...

Who in their right minds burns their toast at that time of the night?

    Actually don't answer that...

Life delivers up shite sometimes, take care eh?
