Actually I was quoting the local body election numbers, assumed same for GE.
Close enough anyway as only about 93% of eligible voters were enrolled, so that takes the 74 down to near 65%, so still only 30%ish of the eligible population got the right lotto numbers politically speakin...
Hardly a mandate as Keys and co likes to say...

Here's a little exercise for you preelection. Make a note of your chosen Icons promises and policies, read that three years later and see what was actually done. Voting a just a charade to make it look like Everyman has a say...

I'll vote this year though, Mana dot com looks like even better entertainment value than Sir Winston.

Not sure why you're complaining it's not sticking? You want him to leave when someone else made a mistake? Voters aren't stupid... actually, some are dumber than a fence post, but, what opposition is there? I would hope that the average voter would see how the country is finally succeeding, while plenty of others aren't, the financial balance is looking healthy despite some tough issues. Why would the average person want to piss that away?

On the other hand, we can have someone that apologises... for everything, including apologies...
You completely miss my point .. I am certainly not a national supporter - but don't jump to the conclusion that I'm a labour or GreEns supporter either .. there is no conclusion that you can jump to from that statement.

Secondly I am not complaining .. in a sense I am amazed and amused ...

In the same bulletin that announced Hauiti's quit ( a very small news item) a big deal was made of Silent T apparently wearing his red scarf too often ...

I'm just amazed and amused that "Teflon" John survives so many of these things ... when Labour MPs get hammered by everyone ...

Sure they are all MPs .. but Teflon John survives anything ...

(PS - I don't really give a shit who is Government - they are all good and bad .. and we always survive .. and personally, I have done financially well under both Labour and the Nats .. so what difference does that really make?)

You must be from Canterbury, you're so one eyed!
Jonathon Coleman just got a hammering in the press and before that it was a constant barrage of Govt Ministers linked to dodgy Chinese businessmen.

    I honestly don't know.
It is something to do with his "everyman" persona, and the fact that he runs the Govt like a CEO.
It also has a lot to do with the fact that the opposition are incompetent fools. Stuff like Cullen’s “Rich Prick” comment and the colossally stupid accusation that Key was one of the architects of the GFC are manna from heaven for the Torys.

White Politicians have a few hundred years of refining the art of theft is all. The Maori's will get there eventually.

The bigger question the next generation will face is will the new generation of politicians (Maori + all other races) take the same amount from the public as past generations. Or more?
Either way our kids are screwed worse than us.

What would be John Key equivalent of "Rolling Coal"?
    That would be amusing.

I think I see your problem.
    Politicians are not Icons.
They're people, and to expect them to act otherwise is a mistake.

The whole irony of democracy is that the disaffected, the ones who moan about the world as it is (i.e. the young) , make up a large proportion of those who don't vote.
