    Unhappy with new helmet

    Hi All,

I need some advice with regards to a new helmet I've brought. It's a Scorpion EXO-1000 Air. http://www.motomail.co.nz/estore/sty...e1000dark.aspx

I tried it on in the shop and it fitted pretty good. I talked with the staff there about what kind of riding I do and what bike I ride. The Scorpion was one brand that was suggested.

However as I've now received my bike and finally had a chance to take it for a ride I've realised just how unsuitable this helmet is for me. Being that I ride a 'sportsbike' I'm leaning forward a decent amount which is causing the "brow" of the helmet to come into view way more than it should. It's ok for riding around town however when riding at 100kmp/h and hitting the corners the top part of the helmet comes into view too much for my liking.

Now on the motomail website their returns policy states the helmet must be in brand new condition with all packaging etc and must not have been "taken for a ride" so I guess that means I have no option that to sell it on and start again?

I've tried rotating it back a little to lift it but then it doesn't feel like it's sitting right. Will have another go tomorrow.

I have an Exo-1000 AIR in 'Mana' myself.

Yeah, the top part can be 'in view' a little. I find it a pretty minor problem myself though. In fact the brow can be handy during sunstrike periods

Chin up, lad. I find lifting the head a little helps.

Now, it IS a little noisy, the vents on the top are fragile, the thing leaks a bit around the visor, the visor attachment system is fiddly... but they're all minor things really.

My 2c. I've had a scorpion exo 1000 for 16 months. It's quiet and the anti fog actually works, although its starting to get a touch of fog now (16 months for a pinlock isn't too bad).

The field of view has never been a problem on my upright, naked bike. I was sold on the helmet by the salesman saying it was designed for upright riding.

The cons are at any speed over 130-140ish it seems to get lift and pulls up and only stays on my head thanks to the chin strap. The air system loses pressure after a few minutes, it would be amazing if it could hold some air.

I've bought a shoei now, xr1100..... Even with ear plugs (plugs4lugz) in I get ringing in my left air from the amount of wind noise on the left side of the helmet (right side is quiet.... Fucking weird) it is unbearably loud. I've reverted back to the scorpion. The fit isn't as tight anymore but I can live with it.

Is your scorpion exo a small? Trade you for a shoei.

Thats because the helmet will be symmetrical but your head is not. You may be able to get different size pads which could help or a whisper kit.

A radical thought would be to go back to Motomail with the helmet and receipt and ask them.

Scorpion helmets eh? Learn something new every day. I'm happy with my KBC, So think I would buy another one of them or another Shoei.

All helmets these days have removable padding and such between your head and the polystyrene inner.

is adding a bit extra padding on top of your head an option?...it would alter the way it fits, lifting it a bit...?

Can't find any helmet myself that fits me perfectly, so have adapted my old one a bit, and with whisperkit and balaclava it now works a treat.

My thoughts also. They are good to deal with so wouldn't think you would have an issue with them.

I feel a bit guilty because I recommended the Scorpion exo 1000 to Galaxy. I've had mine a couple of years and I'm totally happy with it. It's light and comfortable and I haven't had any of the problems mentioned, other than the visors are fiddly to take on and off. I would not change it. I ride a naked bike and get no wind noise.

First, have you checked the pinlock seal is still airtight to the visor, may need adjusting.
2nd, check Shoei is sealing around the visor with a very thin bit of plastic,(I use the Shoei sticker that came in the box)
you may need to adjust it(google is your freind)hope this helps.
