    '99 R1 electrical problems

Bike problems & help needed, pleeeease. Got a 99 R1, battery was flat so charged that. Tried starting & turned over sweet as but would not fire.
A couple of times gave a huge backfire out the can. Read somewhere to check fuses, all good, recharged battery, turned over sweet as but still
would not fire didnt even seem interested in firing.
Any NICE suggestions or advice muchly appreciated please.
    Thanks in advance.

I'm assuming it has'nt run for a while as the battery was flat. If that's the case the fuels probably gone off, drain carbs (I'm assuming it's not fuel injected?) and tank and put fresh fuel in and try again. Doesn't take long for aromatics to diminish in fuel these days and then not have much burn power.

Thanks guys, nope not injected, ran it for a bit around 2 weeks back & sweet as. Didnt seem flooded but when you roll the choke round you can here it strain when
turning over so not sure if fuel related or electrical.
Pulled plugs last week & were a little black but otherwise good condition.

Are you getting spark from the plug? Try a new spark plug.

Nope not properly, the battery was out when i pulled the plug so looking at pulling all the plugs & clean
or replace, will check for spark then.

I only said it because I flattened the battery on one of my bikes once going "fuck you you piece of shit you went yesterday and wont go today? what the fuck?... turned over but wouldnt fire. I of course assumed the worst without checking the blindingly obvious..... I had had an issue with heated handgrips (Protip: always wire through a relay) and just assumed that was the issue without checking. Christ I am stupid sometimes.

anyway, thats why I mentioned it....

    good luck with your issue

Could it be just flooded? Mine doesn't like a handful of throttle when cold esp when not riding it much over winter.
I'd try to crank it with 1/2 choke and no throttle, then if doesn't fire check if plugs wets & then check for spark.
Must be a hassle with no handy workshops.
